and prenantal. I make hubby take a multivitamin and folic acid (research shows folic acids helps his spermies too!). It might be overkill (all the pills I take) but you just pee out anything you don't need. Your body breaks down and uses what it can and gets rid of the rest. The baby aspirin is used to thin the blood a bit. I have heart problems in my family and I see a lot of people with clotting problems on here so I just started to take the aspirin (81mg) once a day. It can't hurt :) Good luck!
Hi there. Before you start adding extra vitamins over and above a prenatal to your regime I would suggest talking to your doctor. A prenatal vitamin is a multi-vitamin designed for women who are either expecting or trying to concieve (conceive). It contains the right dose of all vitamins and minerals, including folic acid. All your bases should be covered by that prenatal vitamin unless your doctor tells you to take something extra. For instance women whose families have a history of neural tube defects might be advised to take extra folic acid.
Vitamins A, D, E and K are fat soluble vitamins which means that the extra stores up in your body and is not excreted . These vitamins can become toxic if you take too much.
If you dont have a doctor visit lined up, call your pharmacist and ask him or her about your particular prenatal multivitamin. I'm sure they will be happy to help!
I got an ok from my doc to take extra B complex vitamins, on top of my prenatal, but I chose to do that because I notice my mood is better when I take them. But, yeah, checking with your doc is a good move.
From everything I have read, a woman who is TTC should have 800mg of Folic Acid daily (unless advised otherwise by her dr). I agree with Scienceteacher that your body will pee out whatever Folic Acid you don't need, but it's always a good idea to check with your pharmacy or dr to see how much your pre-natal has.
I also agree with the vitamins for DH. I have mine take a multi-vitamin and 800mg of Folic Acid daily.
