Artificial Insemination

Well everyone, I went to my fertility specialist yesterday they did lab work, ultrasound and a post coital test.  The lab work came back fine.  My ultrasound only showed one dominant follicle, which of course only means one egg.  The post coital test only showed one sperm swimming around, the doctor said with my husbands sperm count there should have been hundreds.  He said sometimes the Clomid can thicken up the CM so much that it kills off the sperm.  So we are going in for artificial insemination today.  He told us with me only having one egg there is only a 5-10% chance for a preganancy, but we feel it's worth it because the next step jumps up in price!  Wish us luck!  I get to take PT on 11/8.

Good luck- I have heard that Clomid can do that to the sperm. 5-10 % is better than 0% good luck. I hope it works. What was your DH's count for the IUI?

Just got back from the IUI.  The nurse said the count was 31 million!

Just a suggestion, maybe you should buy some of the pre-seed or pre-conceive lubricant from walmart... That might help those spermies survive and make sure to bd today and tomorrow.         Good Luck!

It is absolutely worth it!!  My son was concieved with IUI and one single healthy follie.  We are now ttc for another and I go in for an u/s on wed.  All I'm hoping for is a single healthy follie on my left ovary.  

Very exciting time.  I hope you get your BFP!!

Thank you so much for the words of encouragement.  I know it is possible, but my doctor keeps saying it is such a small chance, it kind of gets me down.  It will be a long 2ww but I will be on a cruise for 5 days out of that, so hopefully that will take my mind off of things.  Good luck with your u/s!  If this month does not work out for us we are going on to injectable medication!

Okay, I'm kind of new to the post so I am not really sure what all the abbreviations mean but I'm assuming "bd" means "relations"??  My DH and I had used KY for lubrication is that good enough or do you still suggest the preseed?

Hey, sorry to cut in here. I know this was for 35momofboys. I read somewhere that you should not use KY Jelly or Saliva for lubricant. I read it can kill the sperm. I would try pre-conceive from wal-mart or pre-seed that you can buy online. Oh yeah... and I hope you enjoy your cruise. I would love to spend my TWW that way. Good luck. Keep us posted. : )

Clomid can cause hostile cervical mucus, in some people, which kills the sperm.  The sperm friendly lubricants create an environment that is similiar to CM.  MUST be SPERM friendly, though, and I wouldn't use anything but the two i mentioned...  

I am due to ovulate in a couple days myself and since i took clomid this time, i decided to try to use the pre-conceive brand from wal-mart and i noticed i didn't have as much of the sperm "leak out" afterwards this time, really!  Also to help your CM you might want to take mucinex, it's a cold/cough medecine that helps loosen your CM.  You can get that in generic form, just make sure to use the kind where the only ingredient is "Guafesien" (sp?)  

Anyway, you can research all this on the net, if you want to get someone else's experiences.

I learned about this stuff on this med help site, from all the ladies on here with so much knowledge.  It's great, and I am so thankful for this site and everyone who has helped me.
