Assisted Hatching

I am 44 and just finished my 1st IVF cycle (ICSI)  6 eggs / 4 fertilised and 2 (8 cell and 12 cell) transferred on day 3....AF visited yesterday d12pt :,-(. I have since done some research and have found that at my age assisted hatching may be useful. The state I live in (in Australia) doesn't seem to offer this so it looks like I may have to go interstate to use this process but i thought I would like to see some results before I made a decision. I cant seem to find many statistics on assisted hatching...so...i thought I would ask all the ladies out there. If you wouldn't mind I would be very interested to hear how many people have used assisted hatching and who had a BFP and BFN. many thanks. :-) PS yesterday when AF came I thought my world had come to am end...today after reading your stories I am inspired...you are some of the most amazing people....

All I had was two shots of HCG....one the day after ET and another 4 days later. I am going to see my RE in two days and I will have loads of questions for him. Thank you for the information :-)

The orgalutron would have been before your egg retrieval to control your egg growth/release. Progesterone and estrogen are started after the retrieval and taken for several weeks to help prepare the uterus for implantation and to help sustain the early stages of pregnancy - you should definitely try both in addition to assisted hatching next time. I was on estrogen patches for 4 weeks (starting the day of my transfer) and have been on progesterone since the day before transfer. I get to finally stop the progesterone after this week, when the dr. is sure my placenta is producing plenty on its own.

You know what....the most embarrassing thing is ... I don't know....I have no idea about what I should have or have not done...I went into this quite blind...trusting the doctor (I am not saying he is not trustworthy as he is but....). I am a nurse so that is VERY  unusual...lol. I just did what I was told....now I am trying to find some facts etc to help me with my next cycle as I am very aware that time is not on my side. Any helpful info and links would be greatly appreciated. It appears that we are not as forthcoming with details etc in this country (Australia)....my progesterone and oestrogen cycles....was that the orgalutron etc that I was injecting myself with?

I'm sorry. :(  I would definitely try assisted hatching if you can.  What was your progesterone and estrogen protocol for this cycle?

Hi, I'm 44 and on the day of my transfer they only had 2 embies ready and I got upset and told them we were supposed to do 3 so I had 2 hatched and one not hatched and still got bfn, we are doing FET and my RE told me we won't do hatching this time. Good luck!

Our ivf lab does assisted hatching for all day 3 transfers regardless of age.  I am not sure what success rates for assisted hatching are but I guess someone calculated that it was worth it.
Good luck!

I don't believe my RE ever does IVF without assisted hatching, and her office has the highest success rates in my city (Seattle). So, yes, I had assisted hatching, have had one IVF cycle, and am 9.5 weeks pregnant. :)  Good luck to you.  BTW, are you sure you're having your period and not pregnancy-related bleeding?  My RE told me to come in for my first beta even if I thought my period had started.
