BBT

Hello Everyone,

I would like to start tracking my BBT....I have no clue on how this can benefit me or if this will even work...I do know that I must get a really good thermometer and make sure that I record my BBT every morning right after waking up...What would be a good thermometer to use for this method? What can affect my BBT? Would my record keeping be affected if I miss a day?

Any advice regarding this topic will be greatly appreciated...Thank you all in advance!

It would be higher, as your body continues to warm up as you move, think, talk etc . . .  I walk across the room every morning before taking my BBT to turn off my alarm, with the exception of weekends.  I don't think it should make that much of a differance for you (especially since it's lower), but you could always note in a journal that you had a disturbance that morning in case it looks all wonky compared to the rest of your temps.

QUESTION ABOUT BBT!!!!  OKAY, SO IF I had to get up & walk a few seconds to take my morning temp.  Would the temp be off by being HIGHER or LOWER???
This AM I didn't have my thermometer right next to me, & I had to walk about 10 seconds to get it & it was @ 97.6  Which is about .3 lower than it's been for the past few days, but I stopped taking clomid, (CD5-9) & that raised my temps a bit for the days I was taking it.
I would THINK it would be higher once you move, but I don't know?????
Anyone know for certain?

I can see myself mastering the BBT method before the Cervical Position one...Only because I will probably have a hard time determining whether it's high or low...Does the position which I track it matters?...LOL.

As for my EWCM, I started seeing it when I started taking Metformin last month.....last month I saw it for like 5 days...this month...I've seen it so far for about 3....You said that Tea that's not herbal is good...What type of tea is this?

My DH and I have been trying for the last 4 years but we've always had intercourse w/o a condom...and I have never been able to conceive...I'm really scared about never being able to do so...that's why we both went to check ourselves out...His results came out okay....One thing I learned afterwards that might have affected us one way or another is that he loves taking really hot showers all the time....and I read that this is not good for a man's sperm....He has been taking warm showers ever since...

I've always been the type of girl to take a Advil immediately after feeling menstrual cramps...How come this is not a good idea?

After taking Metformin, my cycles have been somewhat normal...My 1st cycle last month began between June 3rd and 4th...This month it started also around the same time...the 3rd and 4th....I started with seeing brown discharge.....and I started bleeding heavily for the first time on the 4th...

I was also told that the HSG that was performed on me last month could had helped me ovulate and menstruate better....Those results also came out positive...Even though I was scared that they would not b/c at the age of 2, I was performed a surgical operation to remove my appendix and my GYN told me that I might have scar tissue around my tubes, as a result. Fortunately for me, the test confirmed that my tubes are open and okay....So I was really happy to hear this at least!   :-)

That means it can say 98.48 , is what mine did today:)

About cervical position try to check the same time each day when you pee. If you can reach it easy then it is

low least fertile

if you have to reach it is

med which is what most who have had kids stays

if it is high ten you have to really reach for it! You will know! That is becasue of in the missionary postition the mans you know what goes to the back and theopening is in the best place for conception to occur

As far as CM you every one is different but the eggwhite stretchy stuff that is just like seman or eggwhites is the best and has alot of properties of seman so the sperm can live long till the egg comes. You get wet before Oing and dry up afterwards. I onlu hav EWCM for like to days but everyone is different. Tea of anykind (not herbal though) The tea leaf helps with getting you wet and have good EWCM. I should drink more casue It really flows good but It goes so fast in my house I would have to make two gallons a day to keep it up with 5 kids! lol

I would say though that 4 years is a long time and you need to get bloodwork done! Also make sure you man has good sperm quality! Lots of things can effect sperm! And your eggs.

Do not take motrin or Advil for cramps Or asprin prior to ovulation!!!
Big thing to remember! Are you cycles normal? How long do they last? Have you ever taken birth control pills?

Feel free to ask as many questions as you like.  We were all in that boat once.  Soon enough BBT will become like 2nd nature and you won't think twice about popping a thermometer in your mouth every morning.

Definitely get the book!  She is a great author and it is a very easy read.  Feel free to look at my chart, for an idea of what BBT looks like (although my current cycle is a little wonky).

I appreciate your rapid responses...You girls are awesome!....I will definitely start my BBT charting as soon as I get my thermometer...I really hope I'm able to master it....and will also look into getting the "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" book recommended...I'm pretty new in all this...I had no idea that my cervical mucuous could help me determine my ovulation until I visited my GYN...I also had no idea about BBT until I found this Website...and now, I'm also trying to learn how to track my cervical position...I want to do anything and everything that will help me determine my most fertile days...so I can finally be able to conceive my little miracle!

Thank you so much ladies....Please bare with me if I go back to you with more questions....I'm really trying to make my wish come true...and any help I can get will be greatly appreciated.

I'm a huge advocate of BBT!  It can tell you so much about your cycle.

The only differance with a BBT thermometer is that it takes your temp out to the .10th degree.  I got mine at Wal-Mart for $8.00 and it was right with the rest of the thermometers.  It has a memory function, so that you don't have to record your temp as soon as you take it.

You should temp at aprx the same time every day (give or take a 1/2 hr) and on the same side of your mouth.  To be done upon first waking, no getting up, no talking, no drinking anything.  I keep mine right by the bedside (many women keep their therm under their pillow).  That being said, I have a pretty disorganized morning with a DH that gets up at all different hours and a very large, naughty puppy who sleeps in our bed, so my timing is not always the most consistent, but in the big picture I haven't noticed that it's affected my temps too bad.

You can record your temps on the O Tracker here at MH.  You will notice a significant increase in your temp after you O'd.  I think that the very most important thing to remember for first time tempers, is not to analyze every single temp every single day.  It's the big picture that you want to see and only a few temps at a time won't tell you anything.  It won't tell you before you O, but only after, so I would recommend some other form of charting as well (OPK's or checking CM).

There is a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler.  I can't say enough good things about it and it will tell you everything you've wanted to know about your cycle. It also shows plenty of sample charts and describes what you are looking for.  She goes into detail (with color photos) of not only BBT, but also checking your cervical mucuous and cervical position.

Well you can get a "Basal digital thermometer" at Walmart or a local drug store by the HPT and OPK's. Yes it will help you! Here is how you do it.

Take it earliest time you ever wake up, it has to be the same time each day!
I take mine at 6:10, have it right by my pillow and go back to sleep:) It has a memorie in it if you hold it down.

You can not roll over or get up etc.. before taking it, including talking or kissing your hubby:) You also need at least 4 hours of sleep in a row to be accirate if not note it.

If you use a heating blanket or have a fan on you it can raise or lower your BBT! So can meds and motrin and or asprin can effect your O and delay it or casue it to ot release.

You will see a pattern after a few months if there is a problem. You will see maybe a dip but deffinetly a rise when you O of around .5 of a degree. Then you BD that night and the next:)

You can us an OPK to make sure of when you O also and note it on your chart.

BBT temps tell alot about your cycle and are the best first tool to use for anyone!!! Some just use the cervical mucus and position test but that is not always accurate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I could not stress that enough.

It sounds hard but it really is easy and if you forget then don't write anything down or temp later. You just pick up the next day. You will learn to know exactly what day you will start!

If you have any questions when you start let us know and there are lots who can answer you questions! No question is dumb either we have all been there:0 Best of luck

You need to purchase a BBT thermoneter (temp carries out to hundredths place)  Many things can affect your body temp, make sure you take it prior to getting out of the bed or even sitting up. I occaisionally missed days but it's better to track every day if possible.
