BBT?

I am doing BBT for the first time and have a rather stupid question.  I have read tht you should take your temp first thing in the morning upon waking, at the same time every day, after a minimum of 3 hours of sleep.  I have been taking my temp at 6:15 for the past week.  Today, I woke at 4am and wasnot able to go back to sleep until after 5 ( I stayed in bed)  I took my temp at both 4am when I first woke and at 6:15 when my alarm went off.  Which temp should I record.

Sorry for the dumb question

You know what? I actually have that happen sometimes too. I've noticed that if I take my temperature again, after being awake (but still in bed) for maybe 15-20 minutes, my temperature is often lower than when I first wake up. Very strange, but I figured, as long as I always take it right as I wake up, it should give reliable results, whether the temps do go a bit lower after that or not.

It is weird, though, because your basal body temperature SHOULD be the lowest temperature of the day...

Thank you both for your advise.  What was really strange was that my earlier temp was 97.58 while my later temp was 97.28.  I assumed with would have been the opposite.

Thanks again.

Like Heather said, your first waking temp is the best.  I mentioned that after a restless night my BBT is higher than normal.  So, first temp provides a better estimate even though the timing seems off.

It's definitely not a dumb question...I would use the 4 a.m. temp, since you only had about an hour of sleep before the 6:15 one. Just make a note of it on your chart.
