Bad cough, transfer, and implantation with donor eggs

Please can you help me! My husband and I have been on a long and difficult, painful journey trying to become parents. We finally became hopeful again after turning to a donor program and found a beautiful young woman who helped us produce 26 fertilized embies. on my b-day, Sept, 28th, Sunday, three were transfered into me, the rest frozen. Our donor is 26. I came down with a bad cold right before the transfer, and coughed through 3 days of resting. I am still coughing! I have become so sad thinking that I coughed the little guys right out of me, and/or affected attachment and implantation. Despairing, on the fourth day I lifted some light groceries up the stairs. My Dr. said that it was ok to return to normal activities after a couple of days of rest. Did I over do it.. on top of the coughing? Does a cough affect things with the embies? Please help me. My Pregnancy test is in a whole week! Thank you so much & very warmly, Wendy!

My 38 year old daughter is undergoing IVF using donor eggs from her sister who is 34. They were only able to retrieve 8 eggs, they implanted 2 perfect ones into my daughter and could not freeze the rest. The day of the implantation, her 13 year old dog suddenly got ill and had to be put down. The dog was her baby since she had no real baby. She has been on bedrest for the last 2 days. She has been through many infertility treatments, all resulting in her not producing eggs. This is the first time getting this far in the process to be able to implant.

Would this stress have any impact on a pregnency able to take place?

Wendoll,

All of my donor eggs came from my sister in 2005. They were able to get 21 frozen embryos. My first cycle was a fresh transfer of  day 3 embryos. The cycle failed. 6 weeks later(Feb 06) they transferred 4 frozen embryos and resulted in the birth of my son.
2 years later(2008) I wanted one more child. The 1st attempt(Jul 08) from some of the remaining frozen embryos resulted in a m/c. They used 3 frozen embryos. 6 weeks later(Sep 08) I used 4 frozen embryos. I am now pregnant again, possibly with twins.

As for your coughing: Imagine a small pearl imbedded inside a thick peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Now lay that sandwich flat in the palm of your hand. Now cough. Will the pearl fall out of the sandwich? Nope. An earthquake can't make that pearl fall out of that sandwich. Now, think about how the uterus is built. It is not an empty space. it is a supersticky, thickly lined superstrong muscle shaped like a collapsing letter: c. Those embies aren't going anywhere because some GENIUS created the reproductive system to protect embryos/fetuses. Miscarriages and failed pregnancies mostly come from genetic abnormalities, not physical activity, including picking up groceries. You did not do anything wrong. Please relax and rest when you can. Hopefully in 7 days we will see a post with you proclaiming a BFP!!!!!

wendoll - I too got pregnant w/a donor cycle.  I agree w/clare - coughing won't deter from implantation.  Take comfort in the fact that donor cycles are typically the most successful of all ART procedures since young, healthy eggs are used - Don't worry so much - I know how hard that is!!!

Please pm me if you have any other questions.  I delivered last April (baby boy) and was almost 45.  I think you're going to be okay :-)) - jennifer

Hi

A cough would do no damage at all they cant just fall out that is just an old wives tale. I undersatnd how you feel about the wait i just had a positive result last week i caved in and did an early test to find out the test didnt work you have to wait until the day as your hormone levels wont be correct... It is an agonising wait but worth it in the end good luck  x xx

I would try to just relax and wait to test.  Think of all people get (sick) and do (lifting) when they don't even know they are preg and all is ok.  I think the body is more resiliant than we give it credit for.
