Bleeding 11 days post transfer

I'm 38 years old and am currently awaiting my blood pregnancy test which is Monday, May 4, 2009.

I'd had a tubal and my husband a vasectomy and we wanted to have a baby together (both of us have children from a previous marriage). We've been together for 9 years. We decided that IVF was the best way for us to go. I've never had trouble conceiving or carrying a baby. Always got pregnant right away and carried to term.

This is our first IVF cycle. My egg retrieval was on April 17 and resulted with 16 eggs. Of those 16, 9 embryos remained after 3 days. On day three, April 20th, 2 perfect embryos  8AG and 9AF were transferred. I was experiencing some symptoms of OHSS, so when they did the transfer I was in some pain. They said the transfer went perfectly and they had me lay there for 10 minutes after.

For that next week the OHSS got gradually worse, but I was seen my my dr.'s office where  they did an U/S and bloodwork to make sure everything was okay and it was. It finally subsided and I was feeling great up until last night. I started to feel like I was having period cramping and had very light pink, mucousy (sp?) stuff when I went to the bathroom and wiped.

I got nervous and wanted to know if it was too early to take a HPT but I did anyway, this morning, and it was negative. I'm not cramping anymore, but still have slight bleeding when I go to the bathroom and wipe. Nothing coming out like a period.

Is this normal and could I still be pregnant? My husband and I are trying to remain optimistic but are afraid the IVF didn't work.

I'm calling my dr.'s office this morning to see what they want me to do. I'm doing the progesterone vaginal inserts 3x a day and the ovirell estrogen patch.

Any advice or insight would be appreciated.

Thank you

Good grief... I'm not sure where you are in the States but wherever, it's gotta be pretty darn late!!

magda_s - your answer was exactly what I would've said - great advice!

Mendi2009 - magda's right - doing the constant hpts will drive you nuts & could give you a false negative at this stage.  Hang in there!!  Hopefully this first cycle will work - I hope you get your BFP!! - jen

P.S.  I had that "bloated" thing to during the alst week of my tww - it felt like I had gas sorry tmi - & i tto was pregnant.  It's so hard to rely on symptoms, gosh-darn-it!

Look, I don't want to wrongly get your hopes.  Sadly, it doesn't always work and there often isn't any good reason for it.
However, that said, the slight bleeding could be implantation bleeding and the hpt could give you a false negative at this stage.
I know it is beyond torture waiting to do the beta and there's nothing to stop you from doing more hpts until then if you really want to but I personally think it'll just drive you mental.
As it is, I was doing IVF for the same reason... partly... hubby's 23 year old vasectomy! Perfect embryos, perfect transfer, perfect everything every time but it just wouldn't work. Five fresh cycles and 3 frozen ones.
Then this last try (the 8th), a few days before my blood test, I had that bloated period-y feeling and my lower back was a bit achy and I started spotting very lightly.  Lasted two or three days and I knew my period was on its way but just taking its time about it.
I wasn't even going to bother doing my blood test but hubby insisted I should so I did.
Almost had a coronary when they told me it was positive!!!
The thing is that implantation really does feel JUST like you're getting your period.
So, a) you could be pregnant, or b) it could be that you're getting your period and because of the progesterone, it's being a bit slow about it.
I hope it's the former and not the latter.
Good luck staying sane until after tomorrow!
