Hello. I have never written to something like this but need some advice. I have a six month old baby at home and found out about 6 weeks ago that I was pregnant again! I took 3 positive home pregnancy tests because I couldn't believe it. Since then, I have had all the classic symptoms of a pregnancy and have managed to get over the shock
and become excited about the new baby! However, when I went in for my ultrasound last week, I should have been at least 8 weeks but the ultrasound showed only a sac and the women said I was probably only 5 weeks. I knew that was not possible. They took blood that day and two days later. My HCG was 29,451 and went up to 33,548. The doctor says that even though my HCG level is pretty high, the fact that it did not double (plus the ultrasound) indicates it is a Blighted Ovum. She suggested a D&C early next week. My first question is whether I should ask for another opinion or insist on another ultrasound? I have a feeling the doctor is right but I want to make sure. Also, I have been researching trying to find out if I should do a D&C or just allow the miscarriage
I'm sorry you are going through this. You might want to have another u/s to see what's going on. If you decide to have the d&c, it's a pretty easy procedure physically. I had one in Sept due to a blighted ovum. The whole thing takes about 20 mins. Afterwards, I had a little bit of bleeding for a couple of days and mild cramping. I had been bleeding for 2 weeks before the d thinking I would m/c on my own, but it never happened. If needed, I would have the d instead of waiting to m/c naturally. I hope you don't need one though and all goes well for you!
have just had a D&C after being told that the pregnancy i thought was going ok was a blighted ovum. They did a couple of u/s a few weeks apart and all that could be seen was just the amnio sac and the yolk sac - same as you really. i have also suffered a molar preg 3 years ago so i'm just hoping that this IS just a blighted ovum and i can try again for another little one. so sorry you news couldnt have been better. hopefully you will be able to try again quickly. best of luck.
