Can I start Clomid with TSH at 3.00?

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis 6 months ago. My TSH level was 3.0 in January 08. My thyroid antibodies were 268 (should be less than 45). I have not had a period since March 07. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for well over a year with no luck. I am supposed to start Clomid in May, but am concerned that my TSH level is not between 1and 2 which is desirable for conception. My Endo has not started me on hormone replacements yet either. Do I need to wait to start fertility drugs until my TSH level is down? And are my absence of periods related to my thyroid? Some of my docs say yes but others say no. I am so confused and worried about what is best.

Thanks so much for the advice! I don't understand why my endo has not put me on hormones yet. I want to get started on them, so I guess I will get a second opinion from a new endo and go from there because I do not want to take fertility drugs if there could be any problems.

My TSH was at 2.155 and all other tests were normal - no doctor, including my RE would do anything saying that it 'was within normal range'...I saw an acupuncturist and she said that if it isn't .9 or 1.0, it can 'be difficult to get pregnant' - I had another TSH done and it was 2.7 and I begged my new OB/GYN for Armour Thyroid.  He prescribed it and a week later, my bbts are higher - I feel better!

IMHO, I would find a doctor who treats 'questionable' tsh levels and don't stop until you do!

Your periods are directly related to your thyroid, and I would want it ideal before starting clomid.  You may be able to get pg with those numbers but it isn't ideal.
