Can prolonging sex increase sperm count?

As some of you know my partner and i have been ttc for the past 21months with no success, he has had a sperm analysis done and has been asked to go back to give a second sample which he will be doing 2 weeks today. However, every month we bd we do it everyday from CD12 to CD18 we never miss a day.  If we only did it CD14 and CD16 (as far as i know i ovulate CD16) would there still be a chance i could conceive and would this be enough time for his sperm count to go back up?

We're not sure he has a problem but he's adamant he has because of the second test, all help is appreciated!!

My doctors and DH's urologist said it's best to have sex every other day.  Perfect timing would be to have sex the day before you get a + on an OPK.  They also said if that's not possible to start having sex every other day starting with the day after you get a + on an OPK.  You and DH are having sex too much and it can play a huge role in the number of sperm he has when he ejaculates.

Hi hun,

Yes it could be a bit too much and too much sex can diminish sperms strength and motility, you muct give it a chance to build back up. You are at your most fertile on the day you get a positive ovulation test and the two days after. When you get a positive OV test, this detects your LH surge which happens 12-36 hours BEFORE actual ovulation. I would advise you get some ovulation tests and do them from CD12 onwards until you get your positive, then when you do, babydance that day and the two days after to maximise your chances! Doing it these 3 days will not diminish sperm strength, and will really give you the best chance. Remember not to do OV tests first thing in the morning, and never with first morning urine - your LH surge happens later in the day, best to do your ovulation tests between 12-3pm after you have held in your urine for atleast 2-3 hours.

thanks very much guys my OPK test today was negative have asked my partner if we can bed tomorrow and fri/sat this week as saturday is CD16 which is normally my ovulation date hoping to try something before he goes for the 2nd sperm test i'm thinking of everything to try and speed things up, thanks again everyone

Hi there, hope your well.

Its right what sharahkatep has told you,  But can i say that if you still want intercourse you can do it every third day what i mean is, for example, if you started intercourse friday then you wait till three days after which would be monday that you try again and then thursday and so on.  Its so the sperm has enough time to build up and be strong,  me and my hubby have started to do it this way as doctors say if you do it every day that sperm will be there but might not be as strong.

thanks very much jobygirl don't think we'll try as hard this month, i think when his results come back in 3 weeks we can take things from there and see how it goes 21 months of ttc has started to take it's toll on both of us
