Clomid - What's next?

Clomid - What's next?

I'm 25 years old and have been trying to conceive for 2 years.  I just recently finished my third cycle of clomid (50mg, days 5-9) and have shown a positive OPK each cycle.  Prior to the clomid I never got a positive OPK.  I feel as though my OB/GYN isn't taking my case serious enough.  While taking the clomid, she scheduled no ultrasounds or did any follow-up blood work.  I am supposed to see her again on the 16th of August.  Is it common to let patients with ovarian cyst history go unmonitored on clomid?  She claims I am still very young and there is no rush medically.  Is it possible and likely to get a positive OPK but not actually ovulate?  This past cycle I had an excruciating bad back pain one evening and had tested positive that morning on the ovulation kit.  It literally felt like I was getting stabbed in the back (about kidney height).

Assuming my husband's sperm tests ok, what would be realistic to expect next?

May be you should talk to your OB and let her know that how serious you are wanting to have babies.  If she still kind like take it easy, perhaps you should look for another one.  My gynae did a good job in this.  I was given clomid for day 2 to day 6.  Every cycle, he will do the ultrasound on the 5th day from menses start.  Then I will be asked to do another one on the 12th or 13th day to see if the follies have been formed at the right size.  If yes, he will give me trigger shots to release the eggs and my dh and I will bd in next day (after 24 hours from the shot).  The same thing will be repeated when the new cycle start.  We tried on our own for few cycles and decided to go for IUI last month and now I am 7 weeks pregnant.  Hope everything will work out fine for you.  Good luck!

I was the same..I don't think I ovulated while not on Clomid. I'm on my 6th and maybe last month on Clomid and have been referred to IVF unit here. I never had ultrasounds or trigger shots like Beehappy, but GYN always confirmed o by a 21 day Progesterone level check. It's the only way to be sure the Clomid is doing it's job. Not sure I'd trust a OPK...I think docs often have you on Clomid for a short term, maybe up to 6 months, and then move on to other methods..
Good luck to you.

How frustrating for you to be told that you are still young and that there is no rush medically. I know how you feel - I have been ttc for 3 years and have been on and off clomid the whole time (I did actually concieve (conceive) while I was OFF the clomid, but it ended in m/c), but my gyn did not want to refer me to an RE until I had tried to concieve (conceive) for a whole year straight on clomid! I have never had u/s or trigger shots, just a day 21 blood test. I assume that the next step for you would be clomid with IUI, or IUI  with injectables. Its strange that your gyn isnt even doing a day 21 blood test - she should have done this on your first month to see if the clomid was working or, if not, to increase the dose. Maybe you should look for another gyn if you think yours is taking too relaxed an attitude towards your fertility. Keep us posted on how you go - I would love to hear what your next step would be as I am in the same situation as you only I dont have an appointment with my RE till Septemeber. Good luck.
