Clomid, Metmorphin, HCG injection

Hello All,
I am new to this website. My endocronlogist put me on Clomid 50mg and Metmorphin 150mg. I had one mature follicle(17mm). But I was not pregnant that month(Sep 2006), then our next cycle she increased the clomid dosage to 100mg. I still had one mature follicle(24.5mm). I had my IUI done in that cycle. First week after the IUI, the progestrone level was 21.5 and my estrogen level was 200. But still no luck.
I am having 30 day cycle now that I started taking Clomid. I use to have irregular periods before that.

I got my last period on Nov 10th, and I started taking Clomid from Day 4. My doctor suggested that when I will start to ovulate, then I shd take my HCG injection. I want to know, what is use of HCG injection? And are there any side effects?
With Clomid, I notice some discomfort in the ovaries and sometimes hotflashes. But nothing drastically painful.
I don';t understand, why despite everything being so timed, monitored through blood work and Ultra sound, nothing worked so far.

Any suggestions? I am feeling very worried and restless.

Thanks,
Akapoor

Hello all. I also have pcos and have been on Metphormin for about a year now. I have been on clomid for about 4 months and still no luck. I had my first hcg shot in August and it didnt work. I had the insemination done last month and it was still negative. I go in for my ultrasound tomorrow and if I have a follicle, they will give me the HCG shot. Any other suggestions that I should be doing to increase our chances?

Hey tingding,

hcg is usually given on the day you turn positive on OPK. Otherwise, if you are being followed up with ultrasound regularly, you will be given a shot if you have a follicle of atleast 20mm. Hope that explanation helps.

Hey heatherlynn40

I am going through the same phase too. I just had my hcg shot today in the morning. This is my first round of Clomid 100mg and my body reacted slow to it. Its my day 18 and today the follicles were 24mm and hence I got the shot. They need to see atleast one follicle above 20mm for a hcg shot.
I will have my IUI tomorrow. Fingers crossed :) I am very excited and hope things go fine in the first round itself. Good luck to you too.

do you have to have a menstrual to concieve or is that what the injections do for you without the bleeding? Sorry to sound so dumb but as i have seen its easier to ask people who are going through this. I have been prescribed hcg and menopur.  My problem is that i almost never have my period. any suggestions?

Don't be discouraged. I also have PCOS and am this time around on my 2nd round of Clomid. I am on 100 mg days 3-7 and on 1000 mg glucophage. I go today for my Ultra sound to see if I have any mature follies. :O)
Good luck, I'll check back and see how your doing. I also belong to a wonderful thread that is "lets keep this thread rollin, Cycle Buddied # 8"
You are more than welcome, there are several women going through the same thing.
Hope to see you there.

Hello all,

its been a while since anyone has posted concerning the fertility drugs. i recently had my clomid increased to 100 mg, taking metforomin 150 mg, and recently had my first hcg injection (which i injected myself and wasn't as bad as i thought it would be) but the effects made me feel like i had morning sickness.

anyway, this is my second clomid cycle and i am concerned about it not being a positive result. i've been diagnosed w/ pcos over 7 years ago, am 33 and just recently started trying to get pregnant w/ my DH.

right now i just don't want to get discouraged so any words of encouragement would be appreciated.

In response to a couple of the posts. I have PCOS and wasn't ovulating on my own. I did clomid for 3 months on my own and didn't O until I hit 1oomg (1 egg). When I did 150mg, I o'ed 2 eggs. Still didn't get pregnant. Went to RE, went on menopur shots, clomid (50mg) and ovidrel (hcg) shot. O'ed 1 egg and got pregnant (just miscarried at 6 weeks 5 days). I also added metformin a few cycles ago and it helped me O on my own just by being on it by itself - think only one egg - but I didn't get pregnant with it. Hubby and I are going to try to do just the metformin for the next cycle or two before we go back to the menopur shots, clomid and hcg shot. But i truly think the menopur, clomid, and HCG shot was a miracle combo. Even though we lost our munchkin, we still got preggo right away on it. We also just did timed babydancing - no IUI (DH sperm is fine).

To answer the other question, I LOVE my clearblue fertility monitor and charting!! After I had the HCG shot, it is always thought that you O 36 hrs later. Nope! I O'ed almost 4 days later!!! If i hadn't been using that fertility monitor when I was I would have thought to stop BDing but my monitor said peak fertility and we BDed for 3 days after the shot and got preggo. I told Dh, "that's what the monitor says - so lets do it some more" and we got preggo.

So, a great combo to start off with (if you want to avoid alot of drugs and your cycles are normal) try charting and the clearblu fertility monitor. You can get the monitor on ebay for around 100 bucks.

Good Luck and super sticky baby dust (SSBD) to all!!

I think you are lucky that you are young but if you want to marry  your bf, then you can start the treatment..it might take a while before you actually get Ovulation and pregnant...if you are not ready for a baby yet, then you should at least get regular Ovulation and find out what drugs work for you....
I wanted to go in when I was 19 but my OBGYN was not giving me any diagnos and I waited..now I am 24...
Anyway, it s up to you, but earlier you start, the better for you!
Anya.

Hi, my RE just prescribed Metformin for me as well, As far as I understand, Metformin reduced insulin in your body and makes your ovaries produce less Follicles and cysts..I had 30 in each ovary so metformin supposedly suppose to reduce it so ovaries can produce less follicles and less cysts...
after 1 cycle of metformin, you will have blood work done to see if your liver functions properly ( as Metformin can give an implact on your liver), and if it is ok, then for next cycle,  you will be given Clomid with Metformin ( i think), to induce Ovulation...
That's where I stand so far!
Good luck! Feel free to ask any questions!
Anya.

I am on my third IUI with doing follistim shots to produce follicles and then doing an hcg shot to induce ovulation.  I order both from IVP (a pharmaceutical company) that my fertility dr. hooked me up with.  The hcg shot really is no big deal - it came already pre-filled with the correct dosage and my dr. told me the exact time to inject myself (based upon when the artificial insemination was going to be done the following morning, and again 24 hrs. later).  The shots don't really hurt, besides the "pricking" of the needle.  I have looked up lots of info. on hcg and have many friends who have done IUI and in vitro fertilitization, and all have been successful so far.  I have done lots of research and have an awesome fertility dr.; so if you don't, please feel free to ask me any questions and I can try to help you out!  good luck!

I'm using OPK's to monitor my LH surge, then I'm supposed to give myself an HCG injection. I'm on Letrozole cd 3- cd7. Anyone else had experience with this they could share. I'm afraid I won't do the injection on the right day... Dr has me doing it myself since we live so far away...

Insight please... I'm on cd 11 tomorrow (9.18.2007)

Thanks everyone
