Clomid and HCG trigger?

I have been TTC for almost 3 years. I have had the HSG which came back clear. I do not have normal periods. I have gone up to a year without a period. I have always been irregular. I was put on 50 mg of clomid and no ovulation. Then 100mg and I ovulated 1 out of 2 cycles. I took almost a year off of TTC and am awaiting my period to start 150mg of clomid. I have been reading about the HCG trigger shot and was wondering if I am not going to have an IUI if the trigger shot will still help me? I do not have insurance that covers infertility treatment only diagnostic. So I don't mind paying out of pocket for it. I read that it will cost about $100 for the shot. I am assuming that I can do OPK's or go to my RE to find out when I have mature follicles. Last time I was there, I had many mature follicles in the ovaries, as they only get released a couple cycles a year. Any information on the clomid and HCG trigger shot would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I am REALLY hoping that the trigger shot will work. I am awaiting to see if my period comes. I will get signs of ovulation but then not ovulate but get my period. So we shall see. If this happens, I will start the clomid and then get the hcg shot. Do you go in for u/s to determine when to take the shot? I might just have them give me the shot if I have to go in. My RE retired so I need to go to someone else in the office. I might at that point tell them I want the trigger shot. They have not pescribed it for me but I think it is my best chance. I am tired of not ovulating and seemingly wasting time. They don't have to do the shot as I am a nurse and my mother is a nurse. DH can't stand needles so he would be no good. My mom would do it though.THanks so much for responding!

They do not know the reasons for my irregularity. When I went in once the 100 mg of clomid did not make me ovulate, he siad that I had a gazillion mature eggs waiting to be released, on both sides. So I am assuming between hereditary, the amount of follicles and the meds, my chances are sky high of having multiples. LOL. But that is ok. DH and I are prepared. We just want to get pg. We have had two m/c, the same month, a year apart. So we are hoping the shot will do it for us. Thanks for responding. We have no problem with the out of pocket cost for the shot, we just can't afford the continued shots( instead of clomid). I will call my RE and ask for the shot.

I am currrently on that exact cycle without IUI....just trying on our own with the meds.  4 years ago we hade success with this series of events / meds so I am going to try this again for a while before we go to the IUI.  My insurance does not cover the ovidrel and my RE's office can get it for me for around $45 (they are ording it from somewhere they are affiliated with)....vs the $85 that Krogers was charging me.  Before we added the shot into the cycle, I would say that I was on clomid for approx 8mo - 1 yr with no luck.  So this time right off the bat the doc started with the trigger shot, which I feel good about; better odds as you have a window of timing that you are aware of.....I would go for it unless your RE has a very logical reason of why not to do so?  And if so, I would like to hear it.......

I am on my 3rd cycle of clomid + IUI and had the trigger shot this time. You are expected to O after 38 hours from the trigger shot. My insurance also only covers the diagnostics and I paid around $60 for the shot. They usually give the shot once the follie is matured (18m to 23mm or more). In this they will not miss the IUI timing.

Do you know the reason for your irregular periods?
