Clomid and charting

Clomid and charting

Ok - quick background : been TTC for almost two years, I am on CD 16 now (I think :) . Finally decided to see RE (1st appt in a week). I started charting for the first time 3 days ago. It was CD 13 or something like that for me. I know I shouldn't started so late but better late than never. Anyway, can someone who knows anything about charting look at my chart and see if they think I already O'ed. I am getting + OPK now but had a HUGE spike from CD 13 to CD 14. I haven't figured out what all of this up/down spiking stuff means, no matter how many charts I look at. :) Do you O after you spike a temp? Do you O a few days later after a spike? Was it just a fluke that it spiked that HUGE!? Like I said, I am still trying to figure all of this out. I am also on Clomid (CD5-9). Been on it for about 4 months, finally O last month on it. Upped the dosage and I am on 150mg this month. I had a lot of pain for about 4 days last month when I O (I know I did because of bloodwork). This month I had pain and cramping around CD13 for 1 day and that was it. A few twinges over the last 2 days but nothing like last month.

So, anyone that can help - please do so before I go bonkers trying to figure this out. THANKS!!!!

There's no chart there :-) Just a ticker that says you're on CD17. Try again and I'll take a look at it.

OK! That sure was a pretty big jump on CD16 :-) But since you don't have any temps prior to that, it's hard to say if it means anything or not. Normally, one day where your temp is either unusually high or low, doesn't necessarily make a difference. As long as you see a clear bi-phasic curve. Since you just got your first postive OPK yesterday, and it's still positive today, I would think you're still just about to ovulate. That would make sense looking at your CM too. So just keep temping...and BD'ing! I have a feeling you'll see another rise within a day or two, indicating ovulation. Once your temperature goes up and remains high for three or more days, you can be pretty confident you've ovulated!

...oh, and if it doesn't happen for you this month (hopefully it will), you'll find it a lot easier to temp next month, since you'll have the entire cycle charted.

Good luck to you!

Thank you so much. I know it was dumb to start in the middle but I kept putting the charting off because I knew it would make me just as obsessive as I am now :) I was obsessive before - now it is even worse with the charting!!!  :) Thanks again!!!!

It's hard to say for sure without more temps. With charting, one or two temps don't say much. It's overall patterns you look at. Every woman runs different temps b4 and after o. If your chart were mine, those temps would still be pre o. For another woman, it could be post o. Your temps spike only after o. It is the progesterone that causes the increase in temps. That only happens after the egg is released. That one big hike in temp looks suspicious. Did you get up earlier or later? If you are getting a pos opk, I'd bd for the next 3-4 days straight and see if temps go up again. Only time will tell the whole picture :)

Is your cycle pretty regular?  If so, you should ovulate about 12-14 days before you start your next AF.  So if you have a 28 day cycle you will probably o around cd14-16.  If you have a 26 day cycle you probably o'ed around cd12-14.  Once you get a complete cycle of temps, from the last day, count back 12-14 days and you will usually see the temp shift.  It is likely that you o'ed the day before the shift.

Also, if you are using one of those thermometers that give you your temps in 9-12 secs, I would recommend getting another one that takes a little longer.  A minute or more.  I've never had good luck with those supper fast result thermometers.

Best of luck to you.

I'm glad you posted this because I just started charting my BBT for the 1st time and have some of the same questions you had.  I've been relying solely on OPK's.    I agree with what Tanker Chic said about when your next AF is due and count backward about 14 days.  Just keep "bding" you'll get the cycle covered.    Good luck.

Thanks all!!! I do not have regular cycles and I was not even ovulating until I went on the Clomid and it was at least 100mg. Body just stopped a while back - think it was stress. Thanks a lot everyone... Temp is still staying up there, so I am assuming I already O'ed. But the stupid OPK is getting darker each day... UGH - this is really nerve racking to have 2 conflicting things saying whether I have or will ovulate. That's why I didn't want to chart - makes me even crazier :)
