Clomid or femara

just curious if anyone would pick which drug is better
I was on clomid and it worked but after four cycles nothing
But then had a lap don't and found out i had a blocked tube and
endo so now i think the doc said i could try femara because i have
prob with cm while on clomid. does anyone prefer femara over clomid

I was on Clomid for 8 cycles which was the biggest mistake of my life. It decreases CM and hyperstimulates ovaries which could possibly cause PCOS. With Clomid the doctor would advise taking some estrogen to restore CM. I have been on Femara for 3 cycles and like it. I would any day suggest Femara.

I have tried both Clomid and Femara, I would take Femara over Clomid ANY day!!! Clomid gave me a MONSTER headache for almost 4 weeks, YES 4 weeks!! Femara, LOVED IT!!! Had no side effects and its better on the uterine lining (doesn't thin it out like Clomid), and doesn't create hostile CM like Clomid! Good Luck!

Thank you all for the info.

dnikki0928 Yea im with you my doc always lets me pick what i want to do yest after my follow up for my lap he asked if i wanted shots to take care of endo for six months (which would through me in to total menopause) or clomid or femera. I am with you i think if my doc just told me what to do i would say see ya. You pay them they don't pay you that is how i look at it

babyblue: My RE asks what I would like to do each cycle, so I always have the last say.... If it weren't that way, I would find another. Do you not have a say in your protocol?

If you had problems with CM while on Clomid, then it's probably a good idea to try the Femara instead.  I've tried both (4 cycles on each) and I have to say that I did like the Femara better.  With Clomid I had horrible hot flashes and was a little moody at times, but didn't have that with the Femara.  The only thing with the Femara was that I got horrible headaches mid-way through my cycles and I did read somewhere that is the one side effect that is usually worse with Femara.  As far as it's effectiveness, I think Clomid is more prone to giving you multiple follicles/eggs, that is why there is the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation.  Obviously though, everyone's body responds differently.  Good luck to you.

that would be a personal choice of course, but i've only tried femara and really liked it! and got pregnant on that (+ follistim) and IUI , it was our third round of femara.. like everyone said, the nice thing about femara is the side effects are few and tolerable, it doens't thin your lining (which actually makes miscarriage rates lower with femara) and it actually improved my CM! i have endo and pcos as well, and it can actually be used as an endo suppressive drug, so thats why we choose it initially!  good luck! : )

I don't think you have a choice to pick what med you want to be on.  your doctor will decide.  all I know clomid does make your uterus lining thin, fermera, I only took one cycle and i do really like it.  Now i am off all kind of meds.

good luck to you

I tried clomid for 8 months and got one BFP but ended in early m/c. So now this cycle (when af shows) I am trying the Femara - less side effects than clomid (I have endo and PCOS). I just read some research on it that my RE gave me and it said it is found not have any side effects on the endometrial lining or CM. So, def. looking forward to that! Good luck and keep us posted!!
