DHEA & INSOMNIA

Hi, I have been taking dhea for almost 3 weeks. Started with 25 mg twice a day and got a bad headache, but I was persistent. And now I take 50 mg in the am and no headache, but I have noticed that it has cause insomnia. I need to take a sleep aid in order to fall asleep. I have also been spotting for the last week. I also take vitex 485 mg twice a day. Can someone tell me how I can relieve any of these side effects. Been trying to ttc for 4 1/2 yrs now. I will be 44 yrs in April '012. Pretty much running out of time. 2 failed  ivfs. 6 embryos transferred first time good quality pfn and 2nd 3 embryos only 1- good quality ended up in chemical pregnancy. I've gotten disappointed by now. I have mild endo. I have 2 children 22 yrs. & 17 yrs. I feel somewhat selfish. I have new husband 6 years. I would greatly appreciate any advise :)

In my opinion that is way too much dhea.  It appears you are in perimenopause at this point, likely estrogen dominant as  progesterone levels drop quickly in our 40's .  Please do an intensive saliva test for all sex hormones, dhea, and cortisol, before self navigating on a possible dangerous course of hormone replacement.  You might want to try a compounded, sublingual dhea at very low doses.  Dhea is a very powerful hormone, not taken without knowing if you are indeed low, and certainly not to be taken at high doses.  You could cause damage to your adrenal glands and have severe consequences in the future as you enter menopause.  Find a very experienced functional medicine doctor to support you as you seek to balance your hormones.

Donor eggs is good, when you carry that life in your tummy it will not make a difference...it is amazing feeling! And once he/she is born, you will know then how amazing our creator is. I wish you the best of luck! 2ww period with IVF is very exhausting. That is what i'm affraid of. Yes I am blessed with my 2 kids. I had them young. God bless you!

U r still lucky having two children. I have none. Been trying for last ten years. IVF too failed. have to try with donor eggs
