Doctor says O on 12-14, but BBT shows O on day 19?

Doctor says O on 12-14, but BBT shows O on day 19?

After 6 months TTC my BBT chart shows O on day 19 - short luteal phases (8 days ave) and 27 (ave) day cycles. (I stopped the pill right before ttc.)

So I saw a Reproductive Endocrinology-Infertility specialist because of the short luteal phase.  I printed all 6 months of BBT charts and took them with me. He briefly looked at some, and said that my regular cycles indicate ovulation. We will do bloodwork (both of us), the CCCT with next cycle, and check out husband's sperm.

He said that luteal phase defect has been debunked, and that I am ovulating b/t day 12-14 (based on 14 day luteal phase and cycle length). He said to re-focus love-making to days 10, 12, & 14.  Doc expressed his belief that the BBT is unreliable, and that it tends to create more stress for infertile couples. He said that I should put away the thermometer and the OPKs, etc., and just try to enjoy the process.

But I rarely show fertile CM before day 14, and see temp rise associated with O around day 18-19. I realize BBT can be flawed, but even if I am doing something wrong, I am getting pretty consistent O results. I have also used OPK adn monitor - and they align with BBT results. And my CM dries up right after O on 18/19.

My husband and I have decided to try on days 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 to cover all our bases.

Anyone else heard of the LPD being dis-credited?

Thanks,

C-

I'd trust your gut on this one, I know that I'm usually in tune with my body, and often when the BBT and CM allign you can tell for sure if you're ovulating.  Maybe to be safe you can BD at both times (your dr. predict and then later on your predict)?

I think you should go with what your body is telling you.  I have been TTC and after all of the great advice from the ladies here and watching my body and reading up.... not everyone is going to ovulate on Day 14....... I myself seem to ovulate on day 15-17.  I would say-- and this is just my opinion-- keep taking your BBT, checking your CM, and doing the OPK. I hope everything works out for you......

The poster above took the words right out of my mouth.  Go with your gut!!  First of all, how is he determining that you O'd on CD14?  Just by your cycle days?  If your BBT, OPK's and CM all agree, then trust that before going with his/her cookiecutter 14 day ovulation.  The only sign that doesn't agree with my O time might be CM sometimes, but if all of yours agree then go with it.

One question, and you may have already said it but I can't see it now, but have your luteal phases been consistently short?

Yes - my luteal phase averages 8 days, it has been 6, 7, 8, 8, and 10 (there was one annovulatory month due to corticosteroids for an unrelated health issue - known side-effect).

I believe that the doctor was basing the day 14 O on the idea of the 14 day luteal phase and my 28 day cycle (i.e., 28-14 day luteal = O on day 14).

I have been doing some reading and it does appear that LPD is in serious question, and that the current treatments for it are not proven to be effective (clinically proven).

Who knows - we will just BD every 2 days from day 10 (today!) until day 20 - that way I cover his recommeneded days, and those that my body is telling me are the days.

Thanks for the support!
