Does Clomid Really Work?

My doctor put me on 50 mg of clomid for days 5-9 because I am not ovulating. I am supposed to take this for 6 months and if nothing happens we have to try something else for ttc. I am very nervous and scared. I am on my second cycle of this medication. Just curious if this actually works or not? My husband and I have been ttc for a little over a year now and I am hoping this works but I just don’t want to get my hopes up :(

Hi elisa! It's not silly to ask....I'm starting my first round of Clomid on Friday...and my dr also gave me the dates to have intercourse....but I also have to go to the office or bloodwork on day 21 of my cycle so they can see if I ovulated...ask your DR about that! Good luck!!

Hi everyone. Me and my husband have been Tryjng for 2 1/2 years with no luck. We just started our first cycle of clomid 50mg this month. Hoping for the best, just happy knowing we are not alone. How do you know if or when you ovulate? My dr just gave me dates of when to take the pills 5days then dates when to have intercourse. But how do I know that that is really when I'm ovulating? Is that silly to ask? Any advice or words would be much appreciated. Thanks heaps

I have had the same results as many of you I started my first round of clomid on sept 2009- feb 2010 so 4 cycles all together before I just gave up! Clomid didn't work for me I was put on HCG inj with its as well and either O'ed permaturly or the eggs were not growing fast enough! My lining was way to thin, horriable hot flashes, headaches and it was causing way to much cervical mucus! I'm totally against it personally. others have used it and had wonderful results, if it doesn't work dont get to discouraged there are others out there. Finally went to a RE and he put me on Famara, waiting for AF to arrive to start it! Hopefully this one works! Good Luck to everyone!

Sadly, clomid did not work for me either.  (We were trying for a year as well)
I was on it for 3 cycles with my OB (50mg, 100mg and 150mg).  After the third cycle, I was referred to a RE. He tried me on one more round of clomid at 150mg and had me come in mid cycle for an u/s to check for follicle growth. No luck.  I was then put on a newer med out there...letrozole. It is a breast cancer med that they were finding getting those patients pregnant.  It is not FDA approved for infertility treatment. Letrozole combined with IUI, I got pg the first try! (just found out with twins)  So even if clomid does not work, there are many other options.  Most MD's won't keep a pt on clomid for more than 4 cycles so I would talk to your MD about that.  I would also talk to your MD about increasing your dosage each month cause for some....more works.
Best of luck to you!

I took 100mg of clomid days 5-9 in April o this year and had ovidrel shot to induce ovulation and go pregnant but then lost the baby at 10 weeks. Just took clomid 100mg on days 5-9 and had an ovidrel shot on Thursday October 7th and I'm in my two week wait now. Can't test until next Thursday.

i know clomid does work for some, as in my case  it did help me ovulate, but unfotunately i did not get pregnant. anywayz i will try another round with clomid. i have one of my friends who got pregnant with fraternal twins the third time taking clomid. it is not the same for all as all of our bodies are different. so hang in there, it might work for you!

hi there.  unfortunately i am one of the unlucky ones.  I tried clomid for 3 cycles with no luck.  Clomid actually thinned out my uterine lining the 3rd cycle, so I asked my doctor to switch me.  I am now on injectables.
are you being monitored?  it's a good idea just to make sure everything is working the way they are supposed to.
goodluck to you! :)
