Does Lupron or other IVF medications affect thyroid level?

Does Lupron or other IVF medications affect thyroid level?

Hi, As you all know I am undergoing IVF. I started Lupron way back. I started taking gonal-f from monday 12th.

I went to test my thyroid yesterday (I have hypothyroidism but my thyroid was in control with 50mcg levothyroxin (levothyroxine). My TSH level 6 months back was 2.37) and it seems my TSH is increased to around 5 now. Doctor asked me to increase the dosage.

I was wondering if Lupron affects our thyroid harmone too. I know that Lupron is to suppress our harmones but I was thinking it should not suppress thyroid. Let me know if you guys have any idea or anyone experienced this.

Hang in there ! And yes the Lupron and the stims both will make you thyriod go up and down that is why your RE is supost to monitor your TSH very closely ! I hope this helps a little and so sorry did not post earlyer !!

I spoke to my nurse today and she is telling me that she did not know I was on thyroid medication. I dont know how they can make such a mistake. I did not know they are supposed to monitor my TSH. Felling scared now.

I guess it can be different from one person to another but my TSH went down after a failed ivf cycle with lupron. I am not sure if it related to the injections or not but I was tested for TSH few months before my ivf and it was 1.96 so and after the failed cycle it was 0.50
Talked to both my RE and Endocrinologist and they think my levels are perfect and that they shouldn't affect fertility. However, my RE like my TSH to be below 1.5 at all times.
I do agree that you need a higher dose of thyroid replacement medication and make sure your levels are below 1.5

i was told that all the fertility meds shouldn't affect thyroid at all. I also have thyroid disease (hashimoto/low thyroid) and my #'s were up after clomid and I asked my endo and she said it shouldn't affect it. My synthroid dosage was upped and I just did follistim and menopur last cycle and mid cycle, i got tested (it just happened to be my 6 week check up) and my levels were down to a .14, so below a  1. (before they were at 2.76). it's so weird how different docs tell you different things. My dr said anything under a 3 is fine for pregnancy but i have read that it should really be at a 1 so who knows... Now that it's low i hope going on more drugs this cycle won't affect it again... ugh. what a pain in the neck!!!

I am glad you told them !!!  And I would try not to be scard now they know and they will keep and eye on you TSH ! So you will be okay now ! Just like when you get PG they will have to a just your meds several times ! Hang in there and let me know what you and your RE's plans are now !

the Lupron make my thyriod go up 4 times higher. before i start my lupron my levels are normal 2.76, but once i took lupron my levels jumped to 17. i have such a severe throat pain. all though i took lupron only for 4 days then i stopped immadiately.

Check TSH and get it stable before u cycle. Then DON'T check it during cycle. No reason to. Recheck  at second beta if + pregnancy. If u keep increasing your dose, u could become overmedicated which is way worse. Also check free t4/t3 along with TSH as try tend to e more stabble.
