Dollar Store Tests vs. Dr's Tests

Funny stuff!!

When I went to my gyn yesterday she criticized the dollar store tests.  She said I can't believe they sell those things in there and I can't believe people buy those and who knows where they come from or how old they are. I laughed and said, I know, right!!!

Little did she know I had just bought my stash from there...lol  I kept my mouth shut, laughing to myself. She had me do a test from her office and little naive me said okay, thinking her test would be better and just might give me a different result.   I saw the girl take it out of a big box and the actual test looked EXACTLY like my dollar store test I just did the night before!!  Same result of course...BFN  I tried to peek at the name on the box but I forgot what it said.

I cringed afterwards as I peeled off a $20 bill to pay the extra $15 for the dr. test!!!!

Here's a web site I found that may be helpful:

It gave all the different brands and their sensitivy levels.

I was just on a site..(sorry, don't remember what one) but it showed how much each test can read hcg levels.  Actually CVS was a great one w/ 25hcg.  I took a test last night that I read cant read hcg until 100.  I am running to get the cvs one after work.  :)

This is good to know. I am using the dollar tree ones because the others are so expensive when you use as many as most of us do you need to save where you can. HeHe! I'm only 11 days out of ovulation and it showed a faint line today. I know it's early, but I'm getting impatient! This certainly gives me hope.

I got my BFP on a dollar store test and it showed the BFP days before the expensive tests picked it up.  The dollar store tests are actually very sensitive 25 MIL.  The only thing I should warn you that a positive on a dollar store test is always a light pink line - never as dark as the control no matter how far along you are.  When I got the BFP I didn't believe it at first I thought it was an evaporation line so I tested the next few days, all light almost evaporation line looking.  Finally I bought a digital and almost instantly it said "Pregnant".  I would definately use the dollar tree tests again.  Good Luck POAS!

I asked the nurse at our docs office and she said she'd seen cheapo tests show positive when theirs wouldn't even pick it up, so yeah, the dollar store ones are just as good.

Yeah, I didn't let her comment scare me about the dollar store tests.  I know that's just to get you to take their $15 ones.

I have the dollar store opk tests also and I'm planning to use those without a doubt!!  This will be my first time using those so I know darn well I'm not buying the expensive ones knowing I may mess up somehow.

Hmmm, thinking of what I could have bought with the extra $14 I spent...LOL.

I use the dollar tree one also. :)
and lord knows you need a lot
especially cuz i always start a few days early to get my clear negatives and then test twice a day. NOW that would add up. eeek

Just like the post before me, I was sick and tired of buying test because I was a testing junkie.  I'm not kidding I tested at LEAST twice a month.  And you know what?  The dollar store pregnancy tests both gave me positve, but to be sure we went and spent money on an expensive one and we got the same answer.  Sooo....they work just as well in my opinion.  I don't believe that they detect as early as EPT would, but they do job when you miss your period.

I used the dollar tree tests this time because I was tired of wasting money on the other ones.  I actually took one 10 days after ovulation and got a slight pink line.  Two days later I took another one and I could see the line clearer.  Then I went and bought the expensive ones to make sure and they actually had a fainter line on them than the dollar tree ones.  I think that they are the same or maybe better. I'm now 5 weeks pregnant!!!!! I would use them again!!!!

When I worked in an OB office... we got our PT in a big bulk. some off brand... Many places make the tests then put in different boxes to sell (and at different prices) the ones at the dollar store were no better/worse than the ones we used in the office. the only difference between different tests are the dyes....and the MIL that measure. of course the lower number of MIL that are measured the sooner the test will show up.

Hope you get your BFP soon! :)

Ha ha.. My OB said that any test you buy is going to be the same as they would use at the doctor's office.
I'm not sure about the dollar store pregnancy tests. I do use them, I've yet to get a positive, but I also haven't gotten pregnant yet. I haven't heard anything bad about them, every review I've read has said they work great! Also, I use their ovulation tests, and those are very accurate for me, they work better then more pricy ones. They are more clearly positive when I'm about to ovulate. The other ones never got a clear second darker line... Who knows...
