Has anyone ever used donor sperm and if so, what have been your thoughts, feelings and experiences?

Thanks

Although we haven't thought of using donor sperm, we've thought of donor eggs.  My thoughts with regard to it we a little disappointing that it wouldn't be made up of both of us, but it's just a little.  I would still adore having a baby using donor eggs.  Maybe it's different because as a female you can physically feel the pregnancy. It really doesn't matter to me, you could pick an attractive donor with intelligence, height, etc.  I kind of liked that with the donor eggs, the girls were so pretty. We're going to, if it gets to that point, use an anonymous donor with similar feature to me, i.e green eyes, brunette.

Sounds like science fiction, huh?   But at least part of it would be you.  Even if you're open to the idea of adoption, it's a good idea. But everyone's different.  Heck, I'm the kind of person, though, that would want to keep an abandoned baby if I found one (like the movie Grand Canyon), ha! ha!

Just some thoughts. Hopefully helpful.

I have used donor sperm and have two boys.  I could not be any happier.  You know, you don't just look at your children and constantly think of their biology.  They are just your children.  You love with everything you have.

If you are concerned about that missing piece, there are also places you can register to find matches with the donor, siblings etc.  One is www.donoroffspringmatches.com.  They are new but they are free.  They'll get busy and full fast because this is important and people have the need.

Don't worry about it too much.. trust  me-you'll love!

Your question is pretty broad.  Maybe you can narrow it down a little and be more specific.  I'm single and using ds because there isn't a dh in my life.  So, in my case it's a no brainer.  It's really the only way to concieve (conceive).  I have a girlfriend whose husband had a vasectomy and the reversal didn't work so she used ds and  had two very beautiful boys.  Her husband raised them as his own, and they are adults now and the bond between father and son(s) is very strong.   They are very close, even though my friend and her husband have since divorced he is still the father to his boys in every way.

It's not about dna, it's about who is raising, loving, connecting and bonding with the child, not so much whose dna was used to created it.

Agree w/ all said...we didn't use donor sperm but did use donor eggs. Couldn't have the most wonderful son we now have...it is amazing that we have these resources...and like mentioned by babyalive...she said it perfectly! It is funny...I am told all the time how much my little one looks like me, and we do have a bio son, and they look so much alike, I tease my friend who has two daughters that my two sons look more alike than her  daughters (which were IVF both w/ her eggs and dh sperm!) Also...the doc put it this way to me...the donor egg (or sperm) is just the framework (like when building a house) and you put EVERYTHING in it to make it a home!
Good luck to you and all you do! You will do what is right for you and your family, so go w/ your instincts.
