It's a long post but I felt that I needed to let others know...
I felt I needed to share my story, as I searched high and low and there is very few places to find people with the same experience. I can only hope this will help someone else.
On 10-10-2006, I had done a diagnostic larposcopy, hysterscopy and D&C. This was all done to figure out why I couldn't get pregnant. (We'd been trying for a long time.) My right tube is blocked and I have a bicornial uterus. On 10-20-2006 had had a normal monthly friend. That surprised me, but not as much as finding out I was pregnant on Nov. 25th, 2006. Both my husband and myself were extremely happy.
A couple of weeks after, I started to spot. It was no big deal as there was no pain. A few days after spotting I excercised and that evening started bleeding kinda heavy. I still had no pain. I went to the ER and they did an ultrasound, they said the uterus was empty and I must've passed the "tissue". Obviously, i was broken up about it. (They saw nothing in the tubes as well.)
I went to the Doctor's office four days later to do follow-up bloodwork. To our surprise my Hcg levels had doubled. I was sent in for another sonogram, both of my Sonograms had been transvaginal. She too, saw nothing. Nothing in the uterus and nothing in the tubes. I had blood tests again, my Hcg levels had doubled yet again.
Finally, some answers........
I was then sent to a third place for a sonogram the very next day. The doctor had done a transvaginal and they saw nothing in neither the uterus nor the tubes. Then he decided to do a belly scan. (They don't normally bother at 6 weeks because in theory they should see anything.) But there is was....my hopes and dreams was beside ovary. At least we found it.
I was given two options:
Either take a shot of Methotrexate or have surgery. We decided to have surgery as we were afraid the shot wouldn't work.
This is where I am today, I had surgery today. Even though I never had any pain I was hemorrging (spelling?), and they had to remove my entire left tube. I've now been left with one bad tube and a bicornial uterus. It's too early to tell what other options i may have in the future, but the future is bleak.
So, what did I hope to accomplish with posting this?
1. Be vigiliant. If you know someting is wrong get it checked out.
2. If they tell you, your uterus is empty and you've passed the tissue and you don't think you did, get a 2nd or even a 3rd opinion.
3. It may seem fruitless to the everyone else, but get the belly ultrasound done. I've lost my baby and my fertility, but I have my life because of the belly scan.
Writing this has helped me a little bit with my sorrow today, I hope it will help someone with a similar situation to know you're not alone.
Thanks for hearing me out....
Scaredinavia... hope I spelt it right...Please get a second opinion before you have a problem like a ruptured tube... Take care and goodluck..
I have spoken with my family doctor today (the one who referred me to my specialist) and it is confirmed that I am undergoing surgery on the 12th of December to remove my tube and the "mass" on that date. I have a scheduled ultrasound on the 11th of December and stay in Regina Monday night for my appointment at 10:45. In the meantime, I asked her about my symptoms, and she stated that in regards to my situation, it is normal for me to be experiencing nausea, lightheadedness and mild cramping (although they do not like seeing it). Unfortunately, our health care system is soooooo shorthanded, that it is not really classified as an immediate medical emergency due to the fact that my blood levels are good (hemoglobbin and platelette counts are right where they should be, along with my depleting HCG levels). IF these symptoms get worse, I am to go to the ER ASAP where I am then faced with an earlier surgery than the one scheduled. I know a lot can change in a period of 2 weeks, but I can handle that, knowing NOW what is going on. I can put my mind to rest about not knowing, as my specialist hasn't really been all that informative. She is also arranging a referral for IVF treatment (as our only one clinic in SK is scheduling appointments a year in advance).
That's really scary..and dangerous.....have you tried to get a second opinion?
I was diagnosed with an estopic preg on the 25th of October and was around 5 weeks. I was given 2 doses Methotrexate which proved to be failed - my HCG dropped like a rock after two weeks, but now I have this growing mass of nothing in my left tube and the doctor doesn't want to a damn thing. He hasn't the foggiest idea what is going on as he has never seen this before.
I am so sorry for your loss.
I too had an ectopic pregnancy in October that ruptured....I lost my tube also. But I also wanted to add that in some cases like mine you have no warning signs, no spotting, no pulling pains, no shoulder pain, nothing until it ruptures....so I would also suggest to try and get an ultrasound before 7 weeks, seeing that 7-8weeks is usually when a tubal pregnancy ruptures.
