Egg Donor: How that works?

Does anyone knows how does it works to get an egg donor?
After going trough 5 ivfs cycles, my Dr. wants me to go to Montreal and try the IVM and I don't know if we can afford pay for it. So I and my Husband was thinking maybe  to go for egg donor.
Had anybody did the same thing. Do I have to pay for the donor? Does the insurance ( in MA ) pay for it?
Thanks

I was looking at yours pictures.
What a family!
Congratulations.
And your baby is amazingly cute. I look a them over and over again and I have to admit that I was a little jealous, on a good side of jealousy.

Thank you very much for all the information,  that was really helpful. I will keep asking...

You said that you wore thinking maybe to put some of the embryos for adoption but that you guys postpone. " Let me know if you change your mine" ( sorry I have to say! )

Thanks again!

Hi! - we paid $18,000 for everything including donor's fee, labs, meds, procedures for both her and myself, bloodwork (both), etc.  This is on the cheaper side usually.  Don't be afraid to ask - I promise if I know I'll try my best to answer as accurately as possible.  One other thing, we had leftover meds from a previous cycle (we used my own eggs) that failed so we gave those meds to the donor for a discount.  Not much of one but some money was saved after all.

We have lots of leftover embryos - I want to put some of them up for adoption but we decided to postpone this decision for now.  Embryo adoption is quite a bit cheaper than using a donor but it's basically a  FET (frozen embryo transfer) so from what I know (which is limited, I admit) they are not as successful as a fresh one.  We considered doing one but my dh wanted to try a donor and even though we went into debt to finance the procedure, of course I don't regret it!  We were given an 85% chance of success at time of transplant.  Giving that high of odds is unusual but the condition of the embryos were superior which is not surprising coming from eggs from a young woman.  That's exactly why donor cycles are so successful - the eggs are superior due to age.  It's sad but older women produce 'older' eggs that are more fragile for lack of better words.

Hi!
I am not going to Montreal to do the donor. My Dr. wants to sent me there to do a IVM. But instead  of doing IVM we are thinking to do the egg donor or an embryo adoption here in Boston.
It's really good to know that you did egg donor and you already gave birth to health baby boy.
I live in Boston-MA, and yes I use a privet clinic. I don't know if my insurance will pay for any of the procedures. I called them but they have not yet returned my call.

Can ask how much did you pay for egg donor? Sorry you don't have to answer.
I am so lost right now.
Thanks

Anadefreitas - I did a donor cycle a year ago and gave birth last April to a healthy baby boy.  I contacted a fertility clinic which it sounds like you've already gotten one in mind in Montreal.  There are probably tons of egg donor agencies where you live.  For us, we used a donor that was screened by the clinic we used.  I have a lot more info to give out if you need - please just let me know if I can help :-)) - jennifer

P.S. I highly doubt any insurance company will pay for a donor cycle and believe me we checked.  Check your benefits carefully - they may pay for procedures, meds for you but not for your donor.  I have no knowledge of the system in Montreal but I would venture to guess that you'll be using a 'private' clinic?

HI!
I got you note. And I am already looking for places who does it.
I do have insurance but I don't know nothing about it.
My husband said that he is ready for it and I think I am too.
I found that the Brigham and Women's Hospital, here in Boston-MA does it. I haven't talked to my Dr. about yet.
Right now I am waiting for my HCG to go all do way to zero  and trying to be strong for all that it's coming.
If you have any suggestion, please write to me about it, ok! I'm open to it.
Thanks!

Hey! thanks for responding.
IVM it's what they called In Vitro Maturation. Where they collect the eggs right before they mature and then they do a maturation in the lab. My Dr. said that the best place to do it is in Montreal-Canada.

I am not sure about the insurance end of things, but my best friend had looked into being an egg doner.  I believe they have agencies that you contact about getting a doner, in the same way if you were looking for a sperm doner.  If you don't mind my asking what is IVM?  I've never heard of this before.  Well, I wish you the best of luck and hope you get your dream in the end!
