Egg Quality

Does anyone know how and when a doc may check the quality of your eggs to see if that is the problem causing infertility? This question causes me much anxiety like "do I have bad eggs" all the time I wonder.

Hopefully you won't have to do IVF either, but know...that if put in that position...you can do it and make it through all of the work! By being proactive now, asking questions, and doing all you can...you are on the right road! I I spent my "younger years (20-25) trying NOT to get preggo...and who knew...I could have done whatever (hee..hee!)
Keep doing what you are doing! :O)

Awhhh I see. I have never had IVF and am hopeful I won't have to, although I can see how that would be the ultimate answer to my question. DH has been tested and surprisingly his sperm were all in excellent condition, they even said they were surprised he had never gotten me or anyone else pregnant. Then they tested me....first physical exam, 9 tubes of blood, HSG, more blood on 3rd day of cycle....all came back great results. I get my period like clockwork too but always worried I would have fertility issues because I had unprotected sex w/a boyfriend a lot when I was 17-19 yrs old and never got pregnant then (not that i was trying to!).

Really, after unexplained infertility (had a 5 yr old ttc #2) after 6 IUI's we got our answer about egg quality through IVF. That is truly the only way they can really analyze your eggs...by retrieving them and looking at them. All the other tests can show everything ok (mine did) but until they look at the eggs, they can't know for sure. At 25 you shouldn't have egg probs...I was 34 when we found out about mine (which is still a bit young to realize your eggs are "bad")
Has dh been tested? That is the 1st and easiest...plus seeing if you truly ovulate (that is an important part!) You will find out much information by asking ALL the questions you want on here...plus you won't feel intimidated by docs and nurses (although they are really trying to help, but sometimes just don't realize how much it is to take in!) Keep asking questions!

Thanks! I did have that test done on 3rd day and they said all the levels looked good, I had no idea they were checking the quality of the eggs! I feel so much better about that now. I worried so much about it because I smoked cigaretts for years and they say that decreases the quality and number of eggs.

I doubt your eggs are bad, since you're only 25. But if you choose to have a test done, it would be a blood test on day 3 of your cycle (FSH test).

Good luck to you!
