Egg Transfer

Has anybody asked why you are not given anaesthetic during the implant of the eggs. Ive heard this is a very horrendous and very painful experience which could affect the emotional state of the woman. After all the counselling about staying calm and stress free then having to go through this right as the eggs are given seems absurd to me. Im going to request anaesthetic for this procedure to ensure I stay calm good idea?

Only suggestion, is drinking lots of fluids. I tried drinking warm herbal teas, which I heard from others helps- can't remember why.

I didn't follow the instructions given to me, I had discussed it with my RE, and I took off the day of the transfer and went back the following day. I sort felt like things would either work or not work, there was nothing I could really do to change things. I did try to follow the limits given on lifting and not cleaning.

Food wise, I tried to make sure I was getting enough protein, as I am terrible about eating enough protein.

The only difference between this attempt and the others was we finally had enough embryos to push things out to a 5 day transfer, which left me feeling a little hopeful.

Thank you for your kind words.
So happy about your good news. I can't imagine going through so much pain at first. I appreciate your replies and helping others who are going tough times right now.Funny, I was thinking about getting a puppy too :) I haven't really felt any symptoms yet. I have been watching a lot of netflix movies and shows to keep me distracted.
Any tips on what to eat and how to take care of myself better? It's hard to stay put in one place but I'm trying to just stay in bed or couch.
Cheers,
Eliza

Just wanted to wish you luck and hope that you get your bfp soon :)

The mixed feelings can be hard, with our last attempt, I struggled with trying to stay positive. We ended up adopting a new dog, because I felt like I needed something to help soften the blow of bad news, which turned out to be good news. With the first two attempts it was much easier to stay positive, but knowing that the last one was it for us, made everything harder.

Hi Friendly,
I was really sore after egg retrieval and a bit dizzy. Make sure you have someone with you there the whole after retrieval. It helps to prepare your surrounding a day or two before going into the procedure.Get plenty of rest afterwards. Drink plenty gatorade or drinks that contains electrolytes. Your prescribed pain meds. warm pillow compressed helped me a lot. I was really bloated, almost looking pregnant :) monitor your wt,make sure you dont gain 3 or more lbs in a day and make sure you check your temperature to make sure you dont have a fever.
I did not feel too much pain until maybe a few hours after the surgery. It's hard  for me not to move around but I had to think about getting better for embryo transfer that can happen between 2-6 days. In my case they transfered on day 3. I only had 2 viable eggs out of 4:(
Today is my third day after the transfer. I have a lot of mix feelings but I'm trying to stay positive.
Good luck with your procedure and keep me posted. I am pretty new with this site as well but I find it very comforting reading other people's stories. I also made a friend that answers my questions.
Hope

They do put you under, so you are not awake for the procedure. After the procedure when you wake up, you can feel some pain-i.e. cramping- my doctors office offers your something for the pain- tylenol. Normally it takes about a day or two to recover from the retrieval. I was told by my doctor, that they were very aggressive with my first retrieval, when I told her I was surprised that it took me three days to recover from it, making sure they got everything possible.

Acupuncture can help a lot with the stress and fear.

It was explained to me that during the retrieval they need your bladder to be full to help push the uterus up which insures they place the catheter correctly in the uterus. It's pretty cool when they show you the instant replay, of them putting the embryo's into your uterus, its a flash on the screen.

Hi Hope , is it the egg retrieval that is the painful bit? I read this is done under local anesthetic  which would dull any pain yeah?

I just had my embryo transfered yesterday. The procedure itself was not painful at all. My egg retrieval aftermath was a different experience compare to ET. I have been  doing accupuncture every week since I started my IVF and it has helped me a lot to stay calm and my nurse gave me a lot of great advice during the procedure. Some clinics have an in- house accupuncturist to help you before your transfer. Anesthesia might add up to the cost. Not even sure if they advice you to this. Also, they asked me to have a full bladder during the transfer. I guess, this makes it easier for them to see my uterus. It took about 15-20 minutes for the whole transfer. I waited laying down for 5 minutes then I had to use the bathroom. They asked me to insert my progesterone suppository after I used the bathroom.
Try to think of happy thoughts before and after. Bring a nice warm booties or socks, have your favorite picture next to you or listen to a mellow song.
Good luck and it will be just fine.
Praying for your success

I really didn't find the transfer painful, its more uncomfortable, a bit like getting your annual exam. I know in some situations it can be painful for some people, usually issues with cervix and dilation. Talk with your doctor and ask what your options are. They may be able to give you something to help relax.

Compared, to the retrieval process, the transfer was so easy, with very little pain and cramping.

Is this your first IVF? If so, please talk with your doctor about the procedure what to expect, it will help you to feel less nervous.

There will always be horror stories about how bad different procedures will be, often times they are not as bad as we make them out to be in our minds.
