Egg going to the opposite fallopian tube??

Someone told me that if you ovulate from one side and that fallopian tube is missing- the egg can sometimes be drawn through the abdomen to the other side and make it's way down that tube?? Does anyone know if that's actually true? I am missing my left tube (tubal pg) so I hope it's true, but sounds a little far fetched to me.

Is there a test that the doc can do to tell me which side I am ovulating from?

Just wanted everyone to know that I ovulated from the left side last cycle (ultrasound confirmed)- I have no left fallopian tube! The egg travelled down the right tube and I am now preggo! So it does happen! It's a miracle- but it does happen!!!

HI there, I'm happy to read your comment. I have been searching for an answer for a long time as i also had an ectopic on my left tube and I have the same questions you had! thanks!
I was having right tube removed and after three month I am pregnant now. ultrasound confirmed that I have ovulted from right side and egg traveled from left Fallopian tube.... I'm too happy now!!
I was in the ER last night with right side pain and Cramping. I found out I’m pregnant a few days ago. My first HCG Tuesday was 53. My 2nd on Thursday was 211. Last nights HCG was 633 as of today Monday 12/10/18 I’m only late by 3 days. The pain is in my right side and I don’t have a tube on that side so they don’t think that is were I’m pregnant? It seems impossible right..... but I did show I had a cyst like thing ruptured and looked like it might be bleeding a bit on my right ovary. I know I ovulated off my right side this month too... my dr said that my left tube took my right ovary egg..... I have know idea what’s going on but they side the cramping is normal. I don’t have v. bleeding or anything. I’m sooooo confused.... I’m up from right side pain right now. But I have some gas too so I don’t know if that’s some of the pain?

Excuse me if you know this, thought I need to share. When the egg is released the follicle that releases the egg turns into a corpus luteum. The corpus lutem cyst produces the chemicals needed to support a pregnancy until the placenta is formed and functioning enough to take over. So, the fact that they saw the corpus lutem on your Rt side Riahsmum, indicates that you ovulated on that side. Your fallopian tubes do not attach directly to your ovaries, but normally end close to them and are pretty much "open-ended" into your abdomen. Normally when an egg is released from a follicle on your ovary, the egg ends up in the fallopian tube near it. It's then moved along the tube by cilia (little hairs) and down into the uterus (chemicals released by the egg cause sperm to swim up into the tube from the uterus, and fertilizing occurs while the egg is still in the tube). Normally the egg ends up in the tube closest to the ovary it's released from, but from what I recall, since the egg is simply released into the abdomen it is possible for it to end up else were. So, when your missing a tube it's possible for the egg to be released into your abdomen and for it to then move ("swim") over to the entrance of the other tube and down it - Remember the top of your tubes are not attached to anything and are open into your abdomen. I can't really tell you much more than that.

This is very useful information, Thank you.  I am doing tests now and I have been told that my fallopian tube is blocked.  More tests are done but I am happy to see these things happen.

Don't give up coco, my husband and I have been trying for 3 years. Back in Nov we fell pregnant after I had a surgery to fix my os, it was basically closed. The pregnancy lasted 5 days and I was in the ER as my tube had ruptured. I have both ovaries and left Fallopian tube. We have been trying since February with no luck. This cycle we are on puregon and I currently have 4 mature follies on my right(go figure)! My fs advised me that the remaining tube with compensate for the missing one. He is a great doctor so i believe him. I will ovulate tomorrow at 6 pm so I'm scheduled for an iui at 5pm.  So I have my fx hoping that my left picks up the right follies and it implants in my uterus. Baby dust!

Reading all the success stories makes me happy and sad. I had a mc in February had an operation it was my first pregnancy, then I fell pregnant in June and had an ectopic pregnancy I stayed in the hospital for a week bcoz first they said I am having twins then after I lost the "babies" they removed my left Fallopian tube, when I went to see the gyno she said they can't be sure if it was twin or not, my husband and I were devastated we don't know if we should moan for the lost of two or one baby it's horrible. I have been trying to get pregnant for 8months after the surgery with no luck every month I think I am but get negative test, my husband and I come from a large family so it's been really hard not getting pregnant. But every time I get pregnant I can't keep it, I don't know what else to do I really want a baby so bad I will try anything, did anyone try home remedies, pills or anything to help them conceive?

I know that you posted two years ago but I pray in this time you have conceived and birthed your rainbow baby. If not, please don't lose hope. My husband and I had been married and trying on and off for seven years when we got pregnant last year, and I birthed our own rainbow baby on Christmas Eve. Truly a Christmas miracle and I always talk to God and thank Him and tell him how sweet it was for Him to give her to us and no less, so close to Jesus' birthday. :) I also have only one Fallopian tube due to an ectopic pregnancy, and Donna came out of my opposite ovary. Two different doctors confirmed this via ultrasound and said this only happens 20% or less of the time. They called her a "very determined baby" and I cried my eyes out. That was God giving us our miracle. Please don't ever lose hope. We get our rainbow babies in God's time, not our own. And they are all the more loved for having made us wait so long to become mothers. And yes, we're even better mothers for it too. God bless!

Just to add another happy story and some hope for your situation- I have also conceived from a fallopian tube moving across to grab the egg from the opposite ovary. I lost a tube after an ectopic miscarriage. Six months later I had an operation to clear up some endometriosis and my doctor decided to track my ovulation. One week after the operation he gave me an internal ultrasound and confirmed I was ovulating on the side without a tube. My doctor confidently said I could still fall pregnant and I did that very cycle. My son Miles is now 5 months old.

yes that is what happened to me, i had a ectopic pregnancy and had to have my right fallopian tube removed, i fell pregnant 7months later and doctors told me either though its rare it does happen, that when i concieved my body released an egg from the right side and made its way to the left side and into my remaining tube, and they know this as when they did ultrasound scan the ovary on the side wiv no tube had a cyst on it , which happens when the ovary releases an egg, so they knew it had come from that ovary, i now have a beautifull 1 year old daughter, which i know she wanted to be here.

An ultrasound will tell which side you are ovulating on.  My RE says you can get pg with follie on side of missing tube.  He doesn't say that the egg will travel through your abdomen, what he says that is that things are much more compressed than the pictures and that the egg actually doesn't have far to travel.  He says that if you had part of your tube or it was blocked, the egg would travel to the partial/blocked tube, but if the tube is completely missing, the egg will travel to the tube on the other side.  BUT, I have had 5 IUIs total.  2 with follie on the good side, and 3 with follie on the bad side.  Both times I had IUI with follie on the good side, I got BFP.  I have never gotten BFP with follie on the bad side.  I cancelled my IUI this cycle because the follie was on the bad side for the 3rd cycle in a row.

best of luck to you!!
