Femara and IUI

I am 29 and we've been TTC for 3 years now without any positive results (no miscarriages either though).  I took 6 rounds of Clomid (3 at 50 mg & 3 at 100mg) and nothing. I am seeing a fertility specialist now and this is my first month taking Femara at 5 mg and we'll combine it with IUI as soon as get positive ovulation.  My question is I'm already on day 16 and haven't had a positive test yet but yesterday had clear CM that would indicate I'm ovulating yet today no positive test (though the line was darker than the day before).  How long has it taken anyone here to ovulate on Femara?  Is 16 and 17 cycle day average?  I feel like I ovulated sooner on Clomid but my cyclese were a lot longer on Clomid too....  Thanks to you all and prayers for everyone!

Thank you! I most definitely will.  When we talked at my first appointment for clomid she said that the progesterone levels was all she did as far as monitoring.  I'm going to talk to her again having a little more knowledge of what I could do and see if she can do follicle scans or even an hCG  if needed.  If not maybe I should request another doctor?

definitely request monitoring!!  Why give you 3 months worth of clomid if there's no telling whether you really responded to it.  Yeah bw can come back ok but it doesn't mean they were mature or good quality.  I would definitely request at least a follicle scan at the minimum.  I requested a trigger at my OB office and they did it right then and there.

Hey!
I was diagnosed with PCOS in January 2011 after a year of TTC naturally.  This is my first cycle on Clomid and my doctor isn't monitoring me like I have read most are.  She gave me a prescription for Provera to bring on AF and Clomid.  I asked her what we would need to do as far as monitoring and she told me just to come back between cd 21-24 for progesterone levels.  I wish I was being more closely monitored : (  I kind of feel left in the dark. I just had my blood work done a few days ago and anxiously awaiting results.  She said she was only giving me 3 months on clomid before she sends me to an endocrinologist.  Do you think I should request closer monitoring or just wait these 3 months out??  I feel like were not doing enough....

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner!  I hope that your IUI works!!  TWW is two week wait, and BFP is BIG FAT POSITIVE!!  I'm hoping to try IUI next month as well, this month we are trying naturally but I don't have my hopes up since I'm not getting a + OPK yet and my CM is pretty much nonexistent.  Your test day is coming up soon!!  Can't wait to see the positive result!!

No, they didn't do a sonogram to confirm ovulation though I'm thinking they once said they were going to.  I suppose if it doesn't take this month, we'll try again and I'll remember to ask the doctor, we just did the scan on day 12 this time to make sure there were follicles forming or whatever.  What does TWW and BFP mean?  I can take a guess at both but thought I'd just ask to make sure I get the lingo down here.  :)  12 more days to wait to take a test.  Thanks for all the good wishes!

and texasangel343 -- thank you for responding.  I did not mention that I had a scan on cycle day 12 and they found follicles about 12, 13, and 14 mm.  With that, they said I'd probably ovulate on day 15 or 16. Yesterday morning I had a darker line on an ovulation test so I called and they recommended I come in today for the IUI.  I tested again this morning and it was clearly a positive ovul. result so I am hoping that today's IUI (just had it done) is successful but my husband's swimmer count and shape was a bit low so we'll see.  Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers!

I agree that they should be monitoring you.  It's the best way to not miss your chance.

I moved to Femara after being on Clomid for almost a year on and off.  It took several cycles to make it work. I did conceive eventually with IUI, but miscarried at 7 weeks.  When I went back to Femara after the miscarriage, same thing...no ovulation.  So we went back to clomid.

I always got inconclusive results with OPK's and that's another reason to ask them to monitor you!  Good luck.

I'm shocked they aren't monitoring you with follicle scans.  My OB gave me clomid for 2 cycles and even with my 1st, she had me come in on cd13 for a scan to make sure my follicles were growing large enough to O, then gave me the trigger to ensure that I would O within 36-48 hours.  The first cycle I was able to conceive, sadly it was not viable.  The second cycle 7 months later resulted in BFN so I have decided to switch to a new RE that helped 2 of my friends get their BFP's quickly.  I would ask that they monitor you, as fertility medications can actually give you false results on OPK's.  I have not taken femara, but friends of mine have and have been monitored with follicle scans and given trigger shots to ensure O.  Best of luck!!
