Femara

Anyone who has had experience with femara: Have you ever notice very small follicles? I am getting an average of 3-4 follicles each month, but they are not getting to the right size for my RE to recommend AI. I am wondering what to suggest to my RE in order to get the right size follicles?!?
Thanks for any help!

Hi I am new to this and TTC and have been for over a year. I just started taking femara and I never heard about follicles. I was wondering how they work, how do you know how many you have and what size they are? How do they help with getting pregnant. Sorry I'm new to all this so please bare with my ignorance.

Well my 2ww is over. I am out for this month. AF came this am and now we are going to take a break for a month, until I am finished with teaching for the school year. We are so bummed, but still positive. Best of luck to all of YOU!

One more day to go. Still no signs of AF but none of pg either. I didn't test this morning because I am just so tired of those bfn's. I figure if I get AF then I don;t have to face that missing line!!! I will test tomorrow am if I don't get AF tonight.
Best wishes to all still on the 2ww!!

The trigger should help those follies become mature extra fast those last 36 hours too! so Sounds like you defintely have a good chance! i hope this is it for you! good luck and keep us updated! : )

Oh, and yes I did use a trigger shot both months. The trigger this month came a little too late I am afraid-I had already gotten a +opk and they say it takes about 36 hours to work. So, we'll see.

OK, I see. Well, follicles usually grow by 1-2 mm a day, but towards the end they tend to grow faster than earlier in the cycle, so I would guess at least 2mm a day. So based on your positive OPK the day after the sonogram, I would say your dominant folicle was about 18mm the day of the surge, and probably 20mm by the time you had your IUI.

So I think you still have a chance this month! Best of luck!

I had a FUS last Friday and they were the measurement above and then a got a + opk (my first in over 6 mnths) the next day. They did the AI the day following the + opk. RE thought they were way too small and she wasn't sure why I got the +opk????

Hi Carrie, and welcome to the forum! Are you using a trigger shot or just going by OPKs? And when was the sonogram done compared to ovulation? If the sonogram was done the day of the trigger, the two 19mm ones you had your first month, would probably reach at least 22-23mm by ovulation, which is a very good size. The 16mm one this cycle should also have been mature by ovulation (if measured the day of trigger). Probably about 19-20mm.

:-)

In my last 4 cycles on 5md Femara CD3-7, I have always had a super sized mature follicle ranging 28mm to 32 mm on CD14 averagely.
Maybe increasing ur dose might help, coz u reached 16 once - right?

This cycle i started Femera and got a very good and decent size of follicles.  I have 2 (29x30) follicles on the left and 1 (30x30) follicle on the right. In fact when i was on clomid, my follicles smaller than when I was on Femera.  So i believe each individual will response differently of the medicine.

Good luck

Hello! i've also been on femara for three cycles - this one is with follistim injectable as well.. but its pretty typical to develop only one mature follie wihle on femara (while clomid can cause more follies it can thin the lining and dry up your cervical mucus) I had one follie at 22mm the first cycle and two last cycle 19 and 21 (i'm only working with one functional ovary though) but I agree with candie increasing the dose would be a great start....I think that will just make the follies get bigger faster and hopefully increase it to at least two mature ones!  GOOD LUCK keep us updtaed!: )

Thank You Candie! I have been looking for a forum just like this!
Yeah, I am on 2.5 mg days 3-7. The first month I got two follies about 19 mm, and this month 1 at 16 and two at 8. RE didn't want to do the AI but did anyway and I am doing the TWW. If neg (which I am sure with such small follicles) then I will ask about increasing the dosage. Thank you!

Welcome Carrie!  The only thing I can think of is possibly increasing your dose?  How many mg are you taking and on which days?  I know some doctors start you on 2.5 mg per day, but it can be increased to 5 or even 7.5 mg (I think).  I was on 5 mg on days 3-7 and had an ultrasound during one month that showed one 20mm follie, so that dose worked for me.  Of course, everyone is different.  I would definitely talk to your RE.  I'm not sure what else you have tried, but maybe a different medicine would even work better for you.  Best of luck to you!
