Fertility monitor--is there a point?

Fertility monitor--is there a point?

Hi All,

Curious if there is a point to buying/using that Clear Blue Easy expensive fertility monitor if you're going through a monitored IUI cycle with Clomid and triggers. I think no but wondering if it's worth a shot too. (no pun intended). If round 2 or 3 doesn't work, IVF is supposed to be in our sights but I want to take the summer off. I was thinking that perhaps this would be a worthy investment when trying on our own in the summer.

Anyone had success stories or know of any? Again, pointless with Clomid and RE monitoring w/ blood?

I used the Clear Blue Easy monitor from August until December.  Each month, I saw an egg, but was not conceiving.  It costs me $100 because I bought it on Ebay about 5 years ago.  The sticks can be costly too.  After my FSH level came back as a little high (10), I decided that there was no purpose in it.  Every month that I have good follicles for my u/s, they test my urine for a LH surge.  So, I am not using mine anymore.  It would not hurt, but I feel it is an unnecessary expense.  Some people may like it though.  To me, it was a false-positive of ovulation.

I think the meds interfere with the monitors readings so I never used it while on a medicated cycle.  If you're taking the summer off meds then definitely use it because it does detect LH surge and takes the guessing out of the equation.

Good luck.

Hi, I've been using the Clear Blue fertility monitor for more than a year now. Although it's been very accurate in reading my peak fertility days, with the LH surge, etc.. I agree that it can be quite pointless if your RE is monitoring the cycle with blood draws. Good luck to you!!

I wouldn't buy one, especially since you are being monitored. I have one and it is hit and miss. The sticks are $$ and it rarely gives me a peak reading. It can only test within the same 3hr window every day. It cannot be reset once you start. My surges are fairly short and rarely show in fmu. It wants fmu, lol. This cycle was too long and it gobbled up a box of sticks then quit asking for them (you can't force it to take one). I o'd 3 days later. It was an $$ waste and I never got the thrill of seeing the little egg in the window.

Besides, an u/s is FAR more accurate than any pee stick, lol. Save your $ for a weekend getaway.

That's what I thought. My friend was trying to help me out by mentioning it because a mutual friend used it and it worked. But like I said, me getting blood tests and u/s monitoring, I thought why bother.

When I was 100% OPK before any fertility drugs, I was doing well the first 6 months after that, the OPK never showed up really or showed up at bizarre times. Now that I'm doing Clomid + trigger, they said my LH was 61.1 during peak surge (from an 8.6) so looks like the drugs are working just dandy---or at least I hope.

The monitor seemed complicated to me anyway. And expensive!
