First IUI-What should I expect?

First IUI-What should I expect?

Hi ladies,

I am taking Clomid starting today for my first round of IUI. The nurse told me to take the pills day 3-7 then go back on day 12 for blood work/ultrasound. I also have avidrol(sp?) as injectible to take on day 12. I dont know what to expect after day 12. When wil my husband and I go for the procedure? and how long will that take? what happens if my ovulation day fall on a weekend?

I appreciate any info you could give me.

Thanks
lily

i just finished my first iui cycle and starting round 2 today is cd1 for me for round 2.. what cd r u on...  ok on 12 days that u go back for bw and us to see if ur estrogen matches ur mature follicles. if ur follies r big enough they will tell u what day to inject between 9 an 11pm on night of matrue folliesto ovulate at more predictable time and 36 hours or so later (some do24) they will tell ur husband what time to drop off sa then u go back in hour or 2 to have it injected in then sometimes they have u take progesterone blood work on day8 and come in for a beta on day 14 if u havent started af.. good luck and sticky baby dust to u...  post as u go along and this forum will help navigate u through the process and support u when u need it.. and its always fun to have cycle buddies to share this with

Ovidrel is what you are talking about - otherwise known as "the trigger shot".  This will be given 24 - 48 hours before your IUI.  It insures ovulation within that time frame.

You won't necessarily have it on the IUI.  The ultrasound may show that your follicles need to grow a little more before they give you the trigger shot.  In that case, they will probably have you come back in within a few days after that.  Once you've done the trigger - you'll head back to the doc within 36 hours for the IUI.  Your husband will drop off his sample in the morning so it can be washed and the sperm can be examined.  If they look good they will proceed with the IUI.  I personally didn't think it was painful.  A little uncomfortable, kinda like a very quick pap smear.

If it falls on a weekend you will most likely be paying for after hours care.  You should call them and ask them about that.

The actual IUI only takes seconds, then you will lay on the table for 10 - 15 minutes.  After that continue about your day...take it a little easier.  In two weeks, you'll know!

Good luck!

I meant that you wont necessarily have the trigger on the 12th - just depends on how the follicles look!

Hi!  Wanted to wish you lots of luck!  We did one IUI cycle on Clomid & it was real easy although my Dr. caught my natural surge so I didn't have to do the trigger shot until we did an IVF cycle... I was freaked about the trigger shot so we got our neighbor (a nurse) to come over and do it for me... it was easy & hurt less than a blood draw.

The IUI is just a speculum like a PAP and then a tiny catheter that goes through your cervix-- the good thing is that your cervix is already open because you're ovulating so you should barely feel the catheter-- it might feel a little wiggly or a little like a PAP. It takes a few seconds to squirt the stuff in (my husband and I call it the turkey baster method) and then you rest and think happy baby thoughts for 15 minutes before heading out to enjoy the day (and start obsessing for 2 weeks!).  Nothing to worry about, trust me... I freak out very easily!

Hi there-

I jsut wanted to wish you good luck!  We are currently in the 2ww after our third IUI.  THe procedure itself is really nothing to worry about.  The trigger is easy too.  This month I had started to ovulate on my own but they still give me the trigger to make sure all of your follies come down-so hopefully you will respond to clomid and the tirgger will just ensure the timing of the IUI is right.  Sticky baby dust to you!
