First IVF cycle...

Hi,

I'm going through my first IVF cycle (after 6 iui's!) and was wondering if there is someone out there is going through this too?  I just started my stimulating hormones on 10/5.  I would love a cycle buddy and the support!

I started stims on 10/5. I had 5 IUIs, but now it's IVF time! What stims are you on?

Helen 72:  Thank you so much for writing!  It's situations like yours that make this process more encouraging than scary!  So thank you!  I'm praying really hard for a BFP soon too!  

murd0ck:  I completely understand!  LOL!  I had a lupron shot then started on 300iu (daily) of Follistim on Sunday.  I'm going in Friday to see how things are progressing.  How about you?

I'm on 10 units of Lupron and 125 iu of follistim in the morning and 2 vials of menopur at night, I'm a human pin cushion.I had my first u/s since starting stims today and everything looks on track I'm still waiting for blood results.

Wow!  Yeah that's a lot!  What is menopur?  Is that a shot also?  I just had one Lupron shot then began the daily Follistim shots.

I'm glad to hear things are going as planned.  I'm sure you're bloodwork will be just fine!  Keep me posted!  :)

Menopur is another stimulant injection, it comes in a powder and you have to mix it with a dilutant. My husband now calls himself Dr. Joe after learning all these shots.

How funny!  My husband has to give me the shots too.  I can't imagine poking myself in the tummy!  I don't even look.  He says tell me when you're ready and I scream NO! Just do it!  At least we can find some humor in all this, right?? :)  I can't believe everything is happening so soon!!!!!!!!!

Wow I think I beat your guys out with the injections I have to take. I start with Lupron daily for 14 days then Starting CD2-4 I start bravelle and menopur injections daily. Then One shot of HCG when they are about to retrieve the eggs. Then I start Progesterone in oil shots. I work in the healthcare field and do this to others but god I think I'm going to go crazy with all this. Right now my RE has me one BC for 2weeks before I start the Lupron next week.

The progesterone shots scare me, I'll be starting those this week, I hope my DH can handle giving them to me. For me the worst medication so far was the birth control pills. I hadn't been on the pill for 5 years and they made me sick and emotional. Are you doing acupuncture? Good luck =)

Good luck with your first IVF cycle. I understand the human pin cushion feeling, the Progesterone shots are not bad.  Shots into muscle tend to hurt less than shots into the subcutaneous tissue (I am a nurse also).  He will get it.

We just had embryo transfer after our second IVF cycle.  Cycle 1 ended with a miscarriage, but I am feeling good about this cycle.   We will take our pregnancy test in 11 days.  Wish us luck

lmcrt:  That is a lot of meds! I'm so sorry.   :(   I was actually surprised that I just needed the Follistim shots daily.  I think I have progesterone inserts.  ew.

murd0ck:  I was doing acupuncture and it was awesome!  I guess she said I was where I needed to be with the pulses and all, so she suggested I come back before retrieval and transfer.  I'm looking forward to it!  It's really calming!

So I have a problem.  I just went for a teeth cleaning Mon and everything was great.Then come Sat morning, I'm in pain!  I'm afraid I need a root canal and I haven't finished my meds or done retrieval yet.  I'm scared of having to take any added meds or pain killers.  I'll find out tomorrow, I guess.  I have another u/s scheduled so I could ask my RE.  Then beg my dentist to help me!  This just *****.  And hurts REALLY bad....   :(

georgene: best of luck to you, get that BFP!!!

ZUZ: I love acupuncture, our fertility center allows patients to bring in their  acupuncturists during the transfer to help relax your uterus. I hope that helps since I know I'll be stressed out. Hopefully you don't need a root canal, but maybe you can get it over with and get the drugs out of your system before your transfer although don't the doctors give you something for pain during the egg retrieval anyways. I'm not sure but I hope all goes well for you =)

Oh that's awesome!  I don't know if they'll let my acupuncturist in.  Hmm..I should find out!  So I went in for another u/s  sound and it turns out that everything looks ready to go.  I'm so nervous!  I'm taking my trigger shot this evening at 10:30 and retrieval is set for Wed at 10:30am.  AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  How about you?  what does your schedule look like?  I'm so glad we'll be in our 2ww together!

BTW, I'm going to the dentist and he said it sounds like I need a root canal.  RE said its ok, just to let dentist know in advance about what going to come!   :(  Ow.

I think my trigger will be tomorrow and retrieval Thurs. a.m. I can't believe it's here already. TMI maybe but does your clinic make you take an enama before retrieval, as if we don't go through enough geez. Good luck, we'll get our BFPs!!!

murd0ck-- we are all together this cycle.. wow!! I never knew about this acupuncture thing. I never went for any. Is this going to effect me getting a BFP??

No it wont effect you getting a BFP at all, I'm just high strung and turned to acupuncture to help alleviate some of my stress. Don't give yourself another reason to worry, we have enough. You'll do great!!!

Thanks for the convincing message. I have so much stress that I sometimes dont know what I am doing. I am at work and I am not able to concentrate. I have taken one week of vacation starting from 20th. :)

So I had my root canal yesterday at about one.  Then proceeded to vomit from 5-10.  I think I threw up 12 times.  I was SO worried my cycle would be cancelled for some reason!  I was on the phone with the nurse from the RE office and my dentist at 10pm.  What a mess.  Fortunately, it all passed and my husband gave me my trigger shot at 10:30 (after poking me twice!  He looked so scared! LOL!) The nurse called this morning and said I was fine for tomorrow and I'm lucky that this happened before transfer. What a day I had!

murd0ck:  No they didn't tell me to do an enema.  I'm sorry you have to do one.  I had to one before a laproscopy before but I just had a couple of glasses of wine before I did it then.  Too bad you can't do that for this!   :(

Maria2707:  Did you find out what your schedule looks like?  You should look into acupuncture before retieval and transfer.  There is a lot of info on the web regarding the pros of acuptuncture and IVF.  It is definitely not a must though!  So don't put any bad thoughts in your head.  We all have enough things to worry about!   I'm praying for BFP's for all of us!  Good call on the week vacation!  :)

I have an acupucture appt at 7:30am tomorrow.  I am also extremely high strung and find it super relaxing.  So we'll see how it all goes!  I just want to hear how many good follicles there are.  I know they counted quite a few, but in this case, its quality not quantity!!  Keeping my fingers crossed for all of us!
