First period after ectopic pregnancy

I had surgery to remove an ectopic pregnancy July 30, 2007. I started bleeding like I was having a period Aug 4, Im guessing that was from the surgery I don't know. But I then had a period Sept 12 that was typical for me. My question is was that first bleeding from the surgery or do you think it was a period? and Somone told me that I should start keeping track of which ovary I am ovulating from, but I didn't think it alternated from one to the other consistently, but if it does then would my first period have been from ovulating from the tube that the pregnancy was removed from or would it have come frm the other side? Im not sure if this makes since to anyone else but I would like to know what other people think. My fiance and I want to start trying again but I am scared to death.
