After the egg has been released, the follicle becomes what is called a corpus luteum and starts to produce progesterone for a possible pregnancy. If you're not pregnant, it will dissolve at the end of the cycle. Hope that helps :-)

The other follicles that did not release the egg are reabsorbed into the body. Usually only the dominant follicle (sometimes more) releases the egg.
