Follistim & IUI Tries

So I'm on CD 1 of try # 12 or 13. I've been at this so long I'm losing count.  My pervious tries I was on 50 mg of Clomid.  I have had 3 successful IUI's last year, but I miscarried.  My RE told me that I've been on Clomid way to long so she wants me to start injectables.

My question is I've never had to inject myself, has anyone here ever used Follistim before? Did it hurt? My RE told me that the needle is so thin that I shouldn't feel anything, but I don't see how that's possible. When I was on Clomid I didn't really have any side effects, has anyone had any side effects from this drug?  I have 2 days before I start my first dose so I'm trying to get all the info/support that I can find.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi-I was on follistim for IVF.  I was so eeked by the whole injection thing but I have to tell you it really was fine-and I hate needles.  They were very small and thin and doing it in the thigh makes it a lot less sensitive than some other spots.  Trust me.  i would tell you.  I have been on progesterone oil shots for the last 2 months and those hurt.  Follistim is fine.  Best of luck!

Thanks ladies, I appreciate the feedback.  I'm totally fine getting shots or giving blood, I guess the idea of doing it to myself has me a little jittery. I know I can do it though, it's all for the sake of getting pregnant.

Hi there. Follistim is not so bad. It's hard to watch the needle go in but not so painful. It's thin and short. I did mine in the thigh where I have the extra fat :) Some people think it stings a little.

With Follistim I did not have too many side effects. But I definitely did on Clomid. Good luck!!!!

I have not been through this myself as of yet.  RE wants us to start IUI with Injectibles in december if we dont have any luck before then.  I was telling one of my medhelp friends about that and how i didnt want to do the needles.  She has been through it herself, and she told me not to worry about those needles at all, that they dont hurt and that you just inject yourself in the thigh.

Wish I had some more advice to offer you, but I do believe her when she says that the needles are not that bad.

Wishing you tons of luck this cycle!
