For anyone who has done ivf......

Hi, I will be starting my follistim injections in about two and a half weeks for my very first ivf cycle. I was just wondering if anyone knows how common bad side effects are when using follistim. I googled follistim and I'm freaking myself out now because I saw that it could cause your throat to swell up, or blood clots, vomiting, etc. I'm hoping these things are fairly rare. Does anyone know? I'm such a worrier!!

I was on Follistim 300 and Menopur 150.
they thought I was a poor responder because of the Clomid cycle  who did not go well.
Instead they retrieved 35 eggs.22 fertilized and I got 6 on day 5. 2 were transfered and 3 freezed.
My HCG level are positive now but I will not be quite until they do an US and I can see a heartbeat...
Good luck again and baby dust to you:)

So you will find out if you are pregnant from your ultrasound? Or do you already know?

I am waiting for HCG on Thur, had 5day transfer on 13th.I usually do not get a lot of side effects, but with Follistim and menupur I noticed that my heart would be racing sometimes and I would have to sit and breath, some nausea, headache for first 2 days. But now I am taking only the progesterone in the hip, but maybe my mind is playing tricks because out of nowhere I would feel a ***** by my belly button which is where the follistim was given, strange isn't it? I started with 100units, 175 then to 200units. Did not have follistim for 2days before retreival as the ovaries might have overstimulated. Retrieved 22eggs, 13 fertilized. 8 reached blastocyst stage, but only transfered 1 because of didelphis uterus, froze 7. I used to think that the injections are painfull and worried about side effects, but all is ok now, I don't fear as much anymore.Good luck to u.

Is the blastocyt stage when they wait until day 5? If so, that is what my doctor said we will probably do. We are also doing ICSI.

Hey!
I did my 1st IVF cycle in January 2006 and I'm waiting now for my U/S on Saturday.
You do not have to worry.I did not have any of the side effect for the Follistim.I was on Follistim and Menopur and then ganirelix (antagonist cycle).I thought the side effects were really low in comparison with Clomid.
Are you  going to use the Follistim pen?It really make things a lot easier.
Good luck
