Frustrated - Clomid Worked but Follistim Hasn't

Hi all - well a BFN today 11 days after my IUI. This was my 3rd round of Follistim. Although I have had 3 MCs, I have never gone two cycles without conceiving on Clomid only. Now I am on Follstim and HCG  which is way more expensive. One part of this switch is so annoying, on Clomid I would get scanned to see if I released or not. But on HCG they scan me to pick a trigger day, but never scan on IUI day. I know the whole 36 hours thing but how am I supposed to know how many follicles I had? If we caught it? If I even released? Clomid made me crazy/depressed but it worked. Any advice or similar experience?

I was on a combination of Clomid and Follistim with an Ovidrel trigger shot. Clomid cycle alone the month before did not do anything for me. Had my IUI yesterday. I had bloodwork and ultrasound every other day when I was on Follistim, and on the day of the trigger my RE decided that the follicles were big enough for the trigger, even though the biggest one was 15 mm. I was kind of hoping that they'd do another ultrasound on the day of the IUI but they didn't. I was also wondering how they know for sure that I ovulated but I guess that they just assume? I've read that 97% of women ovulate after the trigger shot. Hope that helps!
