Yayyyy finally my HCG shot tonight! I just forgot to ask the nurse what gage needle I should use..I have size 22 and 27. I think she said in the injection class to use the 27 one to prepare the injection and the 22 to inject! OMG I don't want to screw this up the last minute..I'm kind of nervous ;)
I just did my HCG shot 45 min ago. I dont know which needle to use, they mixed the med for me erlier, but the needle was so big...I was so scared. But I did it!!!
I am having iui on Wednesday? How about you?
Yayyy we did it!!! I'm doing IVF, so my retrieval its Wednesday too! good luck with your iui! And yes the needle was huge! I'm preparing myself mentally since I have to do progesterone injections for 7 weeks! Thats going too be a challenge! ;)
i'd use the 22 to mix it up for sure (that's the bigger one)
if you are giving it just under the skin, you can use the 27g to inject it.
if you are giving it in the muscle, use a 22g since it will go faster and hurt less than way (the muscle injections hurt more than the subcutaneous injections)
either way ice first to numb the area and the constrict surface blood vessels so you'll have less bruising.
and give it the route your doctor instructed since there are different protocols out there and the timing is very important with hcg injections
good luck!
it is the one that I have to mix at home, I injected with the biggest one because is IM. I was surprised it didn't hurt as much, today it feels a little painful
I think you would have been fine either way. I've tried both Ovidrel (pre-filled syringe) and Novarel (have to mix yourself), and although Novarel is technically an IM shot, my RE had me take it with a small needle as a SQ one, so just under the skin, and it worked fine! I did notice one big difference between the two, though. Novarel made the injection site much more sore after! But like you said, that's a small price to pay. Best of luck this week!!!
