Okay... so I guess that's why he was on about not flying.
Multiples typically mean high risk pregnancy. That means no risk of ANY kind!
No there's NOTHING specific about me that means I can't fly. I really don't understand this. Yes, Helen, as you say, I've always known about not being able to fly later in the pregnancy but when my doctor said I couldn't fly early on, I just took it for grantd that this is the way it is. It didn't even strike me as odd (which I now find odd in itself!). Now I am trying desperately for twins and my doctor knows this so perhaps it's based on that that he says I can't fly.
aslchick, you mention having heard about not flying if it's multiples... do you know if that applies right from the get-go??
as it is, I don't think I will fly if it's a BFP. I'm just not going to risk ANYTHING. Despite how great it would be to show up on my sister's doorstep to announce it!
In any case... thank you ladies. All your info is much appreciated.
You cannot fly late in your pregnancy since change of pressure during takeoffs and landings can trigger labor.
I hope you get that BFP!!!
Interesting! I thought it was a naturally understood 'fact' that one shouldn't fly in the first few weeks of pregnancy!!!!!!!
I don't know if there is something specific about you that would have your RE saying that you can't fly, but I would agree that it seems very odd. I have only heard of limiting travel later in the pregnancy or if there are multiples, maybe a bit earlier!
My RE regularly advises me to 'get away' - I would question why he says it's not okay - especially, as you point out, most women don't even know that they are pregnant at that point, so they carry on their usual routine or scheduled plans!
Oh... I would LOVE to go anyway... but I was told flying was a big no-no! :-(
I specifically asked my doc about it because I'm supposed to go on a business trip in early March at which point I'd be 7 weeks or so and he said that "'should" be okay because normally one would avoid flying during the first 8 weeks.
Does seem strange as I'm sure many people have taken flights not knowing they were pregnant oly to find out they were afterwards but I guess it's all about playing it as safe as possible!
Although, now that you say that, I feel a bit more reassured because objectively the chance of a BFN being wrong is very slim and IF it IS wrong, it's not as if flying is definitely a bad thing.
But if it's a BFP, I'll play it the safest way possible!! Would love to be wit hthe family to celebrate but I don't want to risk anything.
And God I SO hope I won't be taking that trip!!!!!!!!! nFor all the right reasons, that is!
Hey Magda,
How about you go anyway? If you have your BFP what better way to share the news with your sister. If its a BFN you will get comfort from your family. I dont think flying is a big issue in early pregnancy.
I wish you all the very best.
Good luck hope you get BFP!!!
Yes, I meant an HCG blodd test... sorry.
And thank you for the reply. So you really think that a negative HCG test result at 14 DPT would be accurate? This makes me feel better. I'm just so afraid of risking a possible unknown pregnancy but if this test is a BFN I really am going to be a bit of a disaster and I can't stay here on my own. My hubby happens to be going on business to Qatar where my sister lives too so I think it would do me a world of good to go with him and be with him and my sis and her family rather than in this miserable place with noone but the thoughts in my head for company!!
By "test" I am thinking you mean an HCG blood test? In that case, the chance it is wrong is slim to none... The only error would be the lab mixing up vials and testing the wrong blood...
