I didn't get pregnant right after, although I am 19 weeks and 1 day now.  I got pregnant almost a year after the procedure.  It is different for everyone.  Good luck and let us know how it goes.

From a bunch of people who've had it done...here's what I heard.  For me, it didnt hurt at all..just a few cramps.  My tubes were open.  However, the girls that had tubes that were clogged said it hurt quite badly because they dye was hitting the clog.  So I think that it will be different for everyone.  They had me take 800mg of Ibprofuen an hour before the procedure.

Ok you're going to get different responses to this because some people have different thresholds for pain.  Some will say it is uncomfortable, some will say it was painful and some say it wasn't bad.  For me, it was not pleasant at all.  My doctor told me to expect minor cramping but to me it was major cramping.  It is tolerable, it isn't something I would want to go through again but if I had to it would be ok.  My recommendation is to take midol before you go because I think that is why I didn't have cramps throughout the day afterward.  It feels like severe AF cramps.  But like I said everyone has different opinions about this.

It didn't hurt and it was pretty uneventful, not at all what I had built it up to be imagine going in for a gyno appt and then they take an x-ray. The best part was getting to see your fallopian tubes. this is the 1st month since and I didn't concieve although someone I know did right after hers.

I had it done and it hurt for me, even though I took motrin.  Unfortunately, my left tube was clogged, but my right one was fine.  The dr. told me to try for 2 months and if that doesn't work then he'll put me on clomid.  This will be my 2nd month trying.

Good luck.

I had my HSG done a month ago and I have to say for me it was unberable, I did take extra strength advil before hand but it didn't seem to help. Like many other ladies have said it felt like really really bad AF cramps. I felt everything she was doing but let me tell you right when she takes all the clamps off the really bad carmps stop. She found no blockages though and it's been a month so far, I was supposed to get AF over a week ago and it's still not here!!! So I just have to wait and see.Good luck and try not to be too nervous.

Hi.  Everyone has different pain tolerances, I, have a tendency to have a high tolerance to pain.  Things like shots, etc, don't bother me.  So, I will tell you from my prespective:

An HSG is a test where they inject dye into the uterus, enough that is flows into the tubes.  They do this test to determine whether your tubes are open and if there is any apparent reason why an egg wouldn't travel normally through the tubes into the uterus when fertilized.  They insert a catheter into the uterus to hold the dye in when it is injected.  None of the is painful.  However, there is a slight level of discomfort when the dye travels through the tubes.  If felt like pressure to me - like a bad cramp.  They suggest you take two advil one hour prior to the procedure - I would recommend that.  You should not bleed after the procedure, however, you make leak dye, so bring a pad with you.  I hope this information helps you!!!  Good luck.
