Has anyone had methotrexate before?

Has anyone had methotrexate before?

My RE gave me methotrexate on Saturday to terminate my ectoptic pregnancy.  She told me I may get a little sick but it is unlikely.  Also, she mentioned that I may have to get the injections one or two more times to to completely eliminate the pregnancy.  It's so ironic that after all of our efforts to get pregnant through IVF because of blocked tubes that I end up with a tubal pregnancy. If you've had this done, can you tell me if you experienced any side effects and what I can expect. So far I haven't felt anything except very light cramping for a short time.

yes i have had it before
they gave me 2 shots at once and that was it
later that night i was in extreme pain in the ectopic area
had to go back to the hospital for the pain
they told me it was cuz of the dissolving pregnancy
try taking some tylenol 3 with it
if your cramps become unbareable bring your self back to the hospital cuz even though they gave the shot a tube can still erupt
hope this helps and im so sorry for your loss

Hello, Yes I took Methotrexate after my ectopic back in April - I didn't get any symptoms that were too severe - mainly tired and headachey, but it was very distressing, so i'm sorry you have to got through this, especially after IVF.   I'm guessing they will have you at home resting for a week to make sure the pregnancy can dissolve safely, so just rest and take it easy.     about 6 weeks after the methotrexate I had a laparoscopy and it turned out both my tubes were scarred and blocked and needed removing - so I lost both tubes.  I was really devastated at first, but it does increase your chances at success with IVF - I'm happy to report i'm 6 weeks pregnant now with our first IVF since ectopic :)    Good luck to you and keep hope during this tough time x

Hi, yes, three times unfortunately.  Ectopic pregancies are so cruel. Your hopes are up, you are pregnant, and it is just in the wrong place. It is so devastating, and my heart breaks for you.  I lost both tubes to ectopic pregnancies and then my first IVF, the egg was "attracted" to the scarring and implanted in the tiny space where my tube attached to my uterus and we had to terminate that pregnancy too.

My period was very heavy after, and my hair got very dry and brittle (partly hormones, partly the shot) and some cramping.  I never had to get more than one shot, even thought they told me the same thing as they told you, that it could take more than one, so don't worry about that.

Take care of yourself, and try to get lots of rest.  I am sooo sorry to hear you are going through this, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
