Haven't Been Sleeping Well. Any help?

As most of you who visit this site daily know, I just found out I am pregnant and I'm very excited, but for the past two weeks, I haven't been sleeping well. I usually get really tired around 10 p.m. and am already passed out by 10:30 p.m. but I wake up around 4 or 5 a.m. every day! I just cannot sleep passed 5 a.m.! It's really disrupting my sleep order and making me really tired during the day at work. I just wondered if any of you had the same problems or had any advice. My mom says try drinking a big glass of milk right before bed and it'll help you sleep more peaceful and longer.... not working for me, but please let me know if you have any advice! Thanks!!!!

I went through the same thing in early pg, and now I'm in late pg, and I am going through it again.  I don't think there are any fixes.. you just get through it.  Take naps if you need to.

One thing that did help me some is making sure the blinds were closed very tight so in the morning it stayed darker longer.  Most days I would wake up well before it was light outside, but then that one day, I would be able to sleep late and catch up a little.

Good luck and congrats.

Drinking a big glass of milk might make you wake up to pee!  That's been my problem - I can't sleep through the night b/c I've got to pee...  I have been taking naps - b/c what the hell right?!

Do you have a lot on your mind?  I'm not preg. (as far as I know anyway) but I do have problems sleeping.  I just had somebody tell me, b/c I have a lot on my mind, to keep a journal about my day and what I want to accomplish write in it every night before bed.  They told me not to edit what i write and only to look back at what I wrote the next day.  That way all my thoughts are on paper and they aren't clouding up my head when I'm trying to sleep.  My dh has problems sleeping and he drinks Sleepytime tea before bed and that helps.

today was the first day i slept long enough. ironic since it was the day of my post haha! I woke up at 3 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep but forced myself to about an hour later and ended up sleeping until now 6:45 a.m. which is normal for me. i had strange cramps last night almost like menstrual cramps. i had to take some tylenol to calm them down but ya i think that's why i woke up besides having to pee haha (kudos to Diane1003). i've been gassy too! i know that's awkward to say but it's sooo true! my husband told me i was fartin up a storm last night! haha how embarassing!! well thank you for the advice i'm going to try and get going this morning! have a wonderful productive day!

I'm 23w4d pg & have chronic insomnia so I guess it's no surprise that I have trouble sleeping I guess.  One thing that has helped me (most of the time) was to keep a journal.  That allowed me to write down all of my thoughts, concerns, etc. so I don't obsess as bad as usual.

Glad you slept well last night - I'm jealous although I did have a better night than usual - jennifer

I'm 8w5d and I thought I was the only one who was suffering from this. My husband says it's because "I'm really not tired". I'm out by 10 PM at the latest each night. I try to not to take naps in the day so that I will sleep the entire night, but it's not working either. I've always been a good sleeper. I have a 2 year old and I can't remember going through this when I was pregnant with him.
