I have a question about low AFP results in the triple screen test. My friend just turned 37 and is 4 months preggo. She got her results back today that said she had a low AFP number. Her last ultrasound checked for the thickness in the babys neck
. Does anyone know the odds of her baby having down symdrome? Does anyone know of someone that had a good outcome even though they had low AFP numbers???
. And I have been to a few where they had low AFP and the baby came out fine. I have been to ones when they thought for sure the baby was down's or some other problem and it is a perfectly healthy baby. All the tests are just screening. You don't really know anything (except some obvious things on u/s like heart defect or something) until the baby is born. . .It's really hard to know for sure what the baby will come out with. But just hope and pray he/she is healthy. Hope this helps.
when my mom was pregnant with my sister at 40, she got low AFP results, turned out her dates were off by two weeks and that threw the test, my sissys ok, they thought she resembled features of a down syndrom (syndrome) baby at birth, because her eyes were far apart, but she is totally fine, no down syndrom (syndrome), so i guess even if they do find some resemblence even at the birth, they can be wrong, i know how scared your friend must be, my mother was a wreck for the whole first year after my sister was born, give her my best!
