High Prolactin Level

I just recieved my prolactin results and it was 30.3. Is that considered high? My Dr wants to repeat the test. If the results come back at 30.3, what would be the next steps? Just curious

i think i have this elevated prolactin level only during stimulation, is it the effect of lupron? i don't know...i'm ovulating normally w/ normal regular period...last time with my 1st round of IVF, they retrieved 10 eggs & 3 fertilized but got BFN...i just hope that this cycle will be a success so fingers crossed...

i think i'm going to re-checked my prolactin level prior to the next embryo transfer, but i'll talk with my doctor first & perhaps make a discussion about it...

No problem:) This site has helped me a great deal with my many questions and most importantly, get the support from the many lovely ladies on here.
The effect of the high prolactin level in my situation was cycles lasting 42-45 days.  So it was very difficult to figure out when I was ovulating.  I tried for 2 cycles once my prolactin level went down, but no luck getting preggers.  I then started treatment, started off with clomid and now switched to injectables.  I've been ovulating,  but still not preggers.  Hoping it will happen soon.
Definitely agree god has a plan for all of us and I wish you luck:)

I also had high prolactin levels but mine was due to a pituitary tumor.. I do know that meds are very effective at lowering your levels..  Best of luck!

I will keep you updated on the next steps. My Dr. recommended me to have the prolactin test done over which I got done today. I should have the results by tomorrow. I've been reading that Bromocriptine and Cabergoline are 2 drugs that the Dr. can prescribe to lower prolactin. I've been reading soo much conflicting info that I just stopped reading and decided to wait to see what my Gyn has to say. I've been pregnant twice in the past so I don't think I can't get pregnant, I just think I need a little push with a pill or 2 since I don't think I'm even ovulating. The only reason I'm even getting the blood test done is so I can have peace of mind knowing if I wanted to get pregnant I can. At this point, I will leave it in the hands of God as my boyfriend says. I'm still young and have soo many things to accomplish before a baby. Traveling.....better career etc. I think alot of times us women get caught up in the whole biological clock thing that we begin to rush it for no reason. When I do get pregnant, I want it to happen naturally not forced. I'm 27 so I still feel like I have many years. And as much as I hate to say this, if I don't have a baby in the near future, it just was'nt in my destiny.I wish you all the best of luck my dear. Please keep me updated as I will keep you updated.

i'm with my 2nd round of IVF after failed just last month...i think we have the same problem with elevated prolactin level...last sunday i've got my  hormonal blood test result, 14 days of lupron (decapeptyl) that time...my prolactin level was 36 & my doctor gave me dostinex to be taken twice a week, for 1 week only...

i'm so confused also, if high prolactin level affect IVF treatment as what i've research, it can cause implantation failure after Embryo transfer...

if anybody here knows about this, advices is highly appreciated...thanks in advance,!!!

Thank you for your response. I'm new to this so I was sure no one was going to get back to me but I thank you. I'm glad to here your prolactin is at lower level. Have you been able to concieve as of yet? And are they're any major side affects to the drug? Will I get pregnant right after my prolactin levels go down? I'm sorry for all the questions. I'm just so curious. Lol. Thank you again!

The norm is usually 25 and under.  So you have slightly elevated prolactin level.  I also had the same issue where my level was 35.  What will happen if your test is the same is you will be prescribed bromocriptine to take to help lower your level.  It's a pill you have to take orally everyday and continue until you achieve pregnancy.  For me it took about 2 cycles before my level was where it needed to be, but everyone is different.
Hope this helps and goodluck:)
