of the worst. The strange thing is the guideline normal reading my GP gave me was 15% normal morphology (against the 30% I've been constantly seeing in research online) and I was told my results are just about within his guide figures, though he gave me a worrying look at the same time and told me to get 3 further tests done. My worry is my 80% abnormal sperm count and I'd appreciate any insight in understanding these results:
I'm caught between the 30% normal Morph which seems to be the accepted minimal norm versus the 15% normal forms my GP suggested as the norm (also a site he used called gpnotebook.com cites) versus the terminology 80% abnormal sperm count - as in, what does 80% abnormal sperm count actually mean? Could I assume I have 20% normal, and also is this the same as morphology?
My GP could not give me enough info on the matter, and I guess posting on here is my way of nudging myself back into tests again.
My DH's SA showed problems with morphology as well. Morphology means the shape of the sperm. They are abnormal if they have more than one tail, two heads
, no tail, etc. The issue with morphology is that it affects the sperms ability to penetrate the egg. My DH's test results showed 80 million (count was good), 71% motility (they usually want atleast 50% motile), then his morphology was at 18% normal (which means 82% abnormal). The next test is called strict morphology. We were told that if that test comes back under 4% then most fertilty specialists recommend IVF. His strict morphology test last time showed 2%, but now we may retest b/c all of his other levels were raised. My DH has double varicoceles
. The FS told us that surgery would not help his morphology. We are going to try IUI for a few cycles b/c our insurance doesn't cover IVF. According to the research and the dr. if your strict morphology is under 4% then the rate of pregnancy with IUI is not as good as it would be with IVF.
