and have been contemplating the possibility of doing it at home with a midwife. What do you think, has anyone there done it ? I have no yet discussed it with my doctor.
I'm no expert, but I believe at our age and what ego through to get pg...I wouldn't want to risk it....but that's just my opinion...aren't we high risk anyway?
Good luck

risk what?
hospital births are not "safer" than homebirths....in fact, giving birth in a hospital greatly INCREASES your chances of having a csection (some hospitals in this country have as high as a 50% csection rate), episiotomies
), etc.
and age does not make us high risk except for chromosomal abnormalities.
the biggest difference between birthing with an OB and birthing with a midwife is that an OB will generally encourage interventions, especially narcotics
fetal distress and knowing when it is time to seek help.
so if you do not want a medicated birth, you should seek out experienced midwives (whether in a birth center or at home) and if you definitely want a medicated birth, deliver in a hospital.
I believe that you need to look at this from all the angles. First is you pregnancy normal? Have you basalt problems? Second are you absolutely sure that you'll won't want any meds? You may decide you want some if your in hard labor for a long time. Third how far from the hospital do you live? If you live more that 10 minutes away and your baby goes into distress or yu start to hemorrhage there won't be enough time to get you there. And fourth and finally are you willing to live with your choice should something happen.
Keep in mind I am not fruit to sound mean. I watched my aunt almost die because she thought she could have her first baby at home with only a midwife, my mother, and me there. The midwife was very skilled and knew what was going wrong but it happened so quick that two more minutes and we wouldn't have made it to the hospital in time. She had a normal pregnancy clear up until the birth and with she was in laborite started hemoraging and lost two pints of blood before we made it to the hospital and more once we got there.
I hope that yu have a safe and uneventful labor and delivery what ever you choose. I'll be praying for you.
