Hormonal imbalance

Hi!I met up with my neighbour's sister today. She happens to be a gynac in snother country and is here on a vacation.I discussed with her abt my inability to conceive for 9 months. She asked me a few questions and saw my pelvic ultrasound reports. My ultrasound clearly shows that i do not have PCOS.However i have some hair growth on my chin and around the nipples.According to her i may be suffering from hormonal imbalance as none of the other ladies in my family have such hair growth. She asked me to talk to my gyn abt this and order a hormone test as this is a minor problem which can be easily resolved. However my gyn has never ever talked abt a hormone test or anything.Have any of you ladies ever had such a problem. If yes then plz share your experiences.

Hi

I have PCOS and so hormonal imbalance..everything is related to insulin resistance...my symptoms from the time i started having periods (age 12) were acne, excessive hair growth at all unwanted areas, and i was too thin...this continued till i was 23 yrs old...after that i suddenly had weight gain, but still not excess...i was happy actually, but my mom and sis felt something was really wrong with me, as thr was no reason to put this excess weight...after my wedding, and after stopping my BCP, when i stopped having af, i went to my doc..looking at me she understood its hormonal prob. test result showed the same. iam now on metformin 1500 mg / day for the past 3 months..and beleive me my acne has reduced and so has unwanted hair growth...

even though you dont have PCOS as per u/s, suggest you check your post prandial insulin level...

Hi! Thanks for responding.I was very fat as a teenager and then went on a very strict diet and exercise which helped me lose all the excess weight.I have been perfectly in shape for the last 10-12 years.I did have acne in my teens but they have also cleared off for nearly 7-8 years now.I do get 1 or 2 pimples around the time of my menses though. Is it possible that i had PCOS in the past but it was cured on its own.I am sure i have some hormonal imbalance as is evident from the hair growth.I'll try to talk abt it with my gyn and if she is not ready to listen,I'll change the doc.

You may not have PCOS...My u/s clearyly showed pearl-like follicles of the same size 3-4 mm..your follicles may be alright, but this thing tht we call INSULIN can be the villain many a times...high amount of insulin in blood (or is it sugar, iam confused) results in acne and hair growth and for some dark spots.....

and as i have alrady once posted in this site, some recent study suggests that prolonged used of BCP infact increases the chance of high insulin in blood...and i think its right...coz bfr using BCP i used to have af every month thought thr was never a fized time, but still it was thr..after stopping BCP, i never had it on my own, and top of it my insulin , acne everything increased at an alarming rate...

PS: I spent a big amount for my acne treatment (gylycolic peel something) to a parlour, nothing happened..and when i used metformin, it went in 3 months...

Ok.I did get my fasting sugar levels checked and they were more towards the lower side of the normal range. My doc never felt the need for getting the PP insulin levels checked after that.I have never been on BCP and get my af regularly and am also ovulating every month. So here our symptoms differ.By the way during my college days i too spent a lot for my acne prob....went for an aromatherapy treatment at a parlour but nothing worked out. After that they cleared off on their own.

Iam TTC for the last 7 months..but the last 2 months were the real TTC months..as i started using provera to induce my af, and started using clomid..previously when i stopped BCP, and didnt have af for 2 months, I was on top of Mt.Everest thinking that i was pregnant and how fast and easy!!! : )

(The height of my stupidity was i was telling my hubby " its so bad things happened so fast!!! " )

I wasted some precious months during those times thinking af will return and things will be alright...now iam in full swing and want everything to happen this month- follicle growth, ovulation, HCG, hMG,HSG everything..and my doc thinks i will go mad stressing myself like this : )

she says its ONLY A FEW MONTHS that you started actively to conceive...for her its a few months, for me they are like years...
