How do you get blood preg test?

Anybody have problems getting a blood preg test?  I was hanging on the last thread of hope that I'd be one of the small percentages of women who got BFN's but still had period-like bleeding and turned out to be prego. I know, I'm reaching.

Once I mentioned the BFN urine test GYN said not to bother.  It didn't matter that my AF was weird and only 2 days long instead of 4.  Do you have to lie and say you got a BFP on a urine test in order to get one?  I didn't want to lie because they'd just suggest a urine test in the office.

What if I had an undetected ectopic pregnancy and it was ignored?  I can't even button my pants anymore because it's so uncomfortable and the heartburn and dizziness is driving me crazy. My nose even bled a little one morning.  She says I feel pregnant because of my fibroid.  I find that hard to believe because I had this fibroid for a while and all this started during my last tww, four weeks ago.  I know I could have all these symptoms because I want to be pregnant but if I got a blood test there would be no questions left.  I'm having blood work done to check hormones in the next week or so. Should I just wait for that?

Any suggestions?

Wow no in my town there is a lab that you can walk in and get a blood test on your own.  It's only $20 it's a qualitive test no quantitive but if you are prego you would get your BFP....so you might want to see if there is some place like that in your home town.

Oh, that's not bad for $20.  I'm going to check.  We have Quest diagnostics here so I'll call them and find out.  I hope they can do the quantitative test, even if it's more money.

Thanks!!

not a problem....it's almost worth it just to be patient and wait for one of those a month  than spend all the money on the HPT....cause trust me I go through those and the OPT's...well good luck on your quest I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

When I wanted a blood test, my dr. didn't want to send me either.  I found a website:  http://www.informedcenters.com/pregnancy.htm#Quantitative

You can order a test and go to a local center that you pick.  It was $59 for the Quantitative test and I went to a LabCorp that was close to me.  They put you under a group plan so you just bring your printout (they also fax the lab the info) and you get your results online.

Thanks for the good info ladies!!  I'm going to check out that website.  The Quest lab website made it seem like you had to go through your doctor.  I'm going to check out the link you gave.

Thanks again!

Yeah, I went to LabCorp first and wasn't told until I got there that I needed a slip from my doctor.  I found the site when I was searching around and it turned out to work perfectly for me.  I figured $59 wasn't too bad considering I figured it would be closer to $100 and it's not like I'm going to do that every month.
