I learned something interesting today about timing IUI

I learned something new today.  I found it very interesting, and I thought you all might find it interesting also.

I called my RE because I was concerned that were not timing my IUIs correctly.  This last one was done on CD14.  I told him for the two years I had been temp charting my cycles, I always thought I o'ed on cd13.  He told me he was controlling my cycle by doing the hcg trigger shot. I asked him, "what happens if my own LH surge starts prior to the hcg trigger shot."  He said that wasn't happening because progesterone starts to go up even prior to LH and he always tests my progesterone on the day of hcg trigger shot.  If my progesterone levels had started to rise, he would call me and cancel the IUI.  He does always take my progesterone on the day of hcg trigger shot, but I never knew why.  I found this bit of information very interesting and reassuring.

Tanker Chic, thanks for the info. It makes a little more sense to me now.  I wandered why he's doing bloodwork the day of the trigger, so now I know.

My RE even told me don't bother with the OPK's or even charting temps anymore, b/c he knows more by the bloodwork he will do.

The question I have is if they check me and end up triggering me on Thursday,  shouldn't we wait 36 hours from the trigger to do the IUI?  Does the trigger make you release the egg exactly (or pretty close) to 36 hours later?  If so, then isn't Friday IUI too soon?  My doc mentioned Friday evening for IUI.  He also wants my hubby to leave his sperm earlier that day.  Seems like the sperm would die off if we don't do the procedure right away?

I temp but don't do opks.  We always do IUI 36 hours after hcg trigger shot.  I have had 5 IUIs.  3 to concieve (conceive) my son and so far we have had 2 with trying to concieve (conceive) our second child.

This is what we typically do:
cd12 u/s, HCG at 11 p.m. and bd
cd14 drop off sperm at 7:30 a.m. and come back for IUI at 11 a.m. (36 hr after hcg shot)

Twice I have had u/s on the morning of IUI (when I drop of the sperm).. both times the follie was still there and the dr said he could tell it was near ovulation because the edges were jagged.

The reason I questioned his timing of IUI was because we aren't using clomid. In the past we did.  I really thought that without clomid, I ususally ovulated around cd13 or even 12 sometimes...

How many hours do you have between hcg trigger and IUI??

I have an appt on Thursday at 7:45am for bloodwork and u/s.  I am thinking he wants me to trigger sometime on Thursday, then do IUI on Friday afternoon.  But he also told me they do work on Saturdays if need be.  I just don't know if I should push for that or not...

Yes everything I read on here says wait 36 hours for the best result.  Maybe I can do the trigger early Thursday morning so maybe late Friday like after 3pm might be a good time for IUI.  I am going to try to get as close to 36 hours as I possibly can. And follow up with lots of BD.

Tanker thank you so much for your very HELPFUL information  --  I REaLLY appreciate!

Hey I msg you earlier earlier.  Anyways, what my RE  had me do was the trigger shot @ 10pm on a wed. with the IUI scheduled at 9am fri & to BD that night & the following .  We had to be there an hour earlier for the sperm washing.  I would check with you RE to see when they do their IUIs.
