The problem with the qualititative vs. the quantitative test is that if your number is below 25 then it will show as negative on a qualitative test even though any number over 5 is considered pregnant. So it's important to know the number so you don't have any doubts.
Since you say it's to support a pregnancy I wouldn't worry about AF starting because you'll know whether or not to continue taking the Prometrium after your second beta. I know you don't want to waste time but it's worth it to wait a few days.
God luck!
I bet they're doing a quantitative in your case. And like Trish said, anything over 5 is considered pregnant. As for getting your period, it really varies from person to person. Some people get AF even when on progesterone, while others have to stop first before their period shows. Best of luck!
I am taking prometrium to help support the pregnancy (if i am). I usually take provera to start my cycle because i am irregular. I believe you can take prometrium to do the same. I am wondering if i am not pregnant if my af will start while i am on the prometrium.
I am not sure if the test they are doing is quantitative. Maybe they are just interpreting the numbers and telling if i am pregnant or not.
Hi Yvonne,
That must be frustrating. I'm assuming the doctor can tell whether or not you already O'd and there seems to be at least 9 days from the first beta. So with the second beta, as long as it's the quantitative type where it tells you the amount of HCG instead of just yes or no, then I would say that result would be firm. I'm not sure what Prometrium is taken for, is this something to help start AF or is something to maybe increase Progesterone to support a pregnancy??? Not sure but since your doc started that without getting the second beta results I'd assume it was something to maintain a pregnancy just in case???
But at least you'll know the answer with your second beta as long as you get a number result and hopefully it will be well over 5.
Good luck and I hope others who are familiar with Prometrium respond as well.
Trish
