I really don't understand!

I really don't understand!

We've been ttc for two and a half years. I first had an HSG. Then my specialist decided that it wasn't visual enough. So I had laparoscopic, about a month ago, to see what was going on. After surgery I was told that I had only one fallopian tube (on the left side). I also have a unicornuate uterus. I do have both ovaries. The part that I don't get is I had laparoscopic surgery before to remove cysts off my ovaries and the doctor NEVER saw these things and never said ANYTHING to me about it. I had the first lap a couple of years ago. I got my medical record from the first doctor and sure enough it said that both of my fallopian tubes looked fine and normal. My uterus appeared normal in shape and size. WHAT? I DON'T GET IT! How did my fallopian tube disappear in 3 years? Unicornuate uterus is an anomaly and congenitaal. So I am so confused on what is going on with me! I was thinking that maybe the first doctor didn't do a good job and he just lied and said he fixed me. Please if ANYONE thinks they could offer ANY insight to all this I would GREATLY appreciate it!
Thank you, Krissy

Krissy,
so sorry to hear about your struggles!  Many things can change over the years.  When I had a surgery to have an ovarian cyst removed my doc also told me that everything looked fine.  Years later a laparoscopy revealed that the first surgery caused scar tissue and everything was not fine.  I guess things change over time.  Also, some years ago a doc told me that I have a tipped uterus (whatever that means!) although my current doc never mentioned that anything is abnormal.  The disappearance of your tube is a mystery: I never heard of that!  Perhaps they ment that your tube is not functional?  This thanksgiving is an anniversary for me: 2 years of ttc.  I am trying to look forward and work with what I've got left  :)  Did your doc suggest any treatments?  Anything you can do to improve your chances?
Best of luck and again I am so sorry you have to go through this.

This is really strange...can you call your old doctor and ask him????
It does not make any sense.
I hope everything will be ok for you.

Sounds like you need to get another opinion.  Did the second dr take any pics?  When I  had my lap (both times), they showed me pics and even gave them to me after the second time.

If it is true that you only have one tube.  Try not to worry too much.  I only have one tube and am 24wks pg.  I also know a couple of other people who had children with only one tube.

Take care.

Hi just wanted to let you know I was informed that I had a unicornuate uterus by the surgeon who delivered my son by emergency section at 29 weeks gestation. I was also informed that I had one tube. I was then sent for an ultrasound to see whether I had both kidneys because apparently it is common to only have one. I was informed I only have one kidney also. I then went to see my consultant to ask what would happen in future pregnancies. He denied I had a unicornuate uterus and said it did not say anything in my notes about it. Yet the surgeon said my son had basically run out of room so they had a struggle to pull him out.
I have since had a HSG which did not show any uterine abnormality just that it is slightly to one side. AAGH!! I understand your frustration.
My son is now 4 yrs old and absolutely gorgeous, although a little small. Very good luck!!
